East African neighbors Kenya and Uganda have been blessed with several brilliant runners in recent years including the likes of Jacob Kiplimo and Beatrice Chebet.

Chebet and Kiplimo have made these two countries to become famous in various corners of the world thanks to their hard work, talent and dedication.

Some of them like Joshua Cheptegei and Eliud Kipchoge not only continue to inspire the young generation but have also set new limits in their respective disciplines.

On the other hand, runners like Kiplimo and Chebet, who are on the verge of hitting their prime, are giving their opponents a difficult time on the tracks and roads.

World record holders

Chebet and Kiplimo are among a few numbers of athletes in the world who currently hold world records.

Chebet, who holds two world records, set a new 10000m world record on May 25, 2024 at the Prefontaine Classic in the United States before lowering the 5km road race mark on December 31. Her 10000m and 5km road race world records stand at 28:54.14 and 13:54 respectively.

Like Chebet, Kiplimo is also a world record holder. The powerful runner recently set a novel half marathon world record in the 2025 Barcelona Half Marathon.

He clocked 56:42 and in the process became the only human being in history to run a half marathon race in less than 57:00.

Consecutive Cross Country Championship winners

The other comparable statistic about Kiplimo and Chebet is that they have both won back to back World Athletics Cross Country Championships titles.

The duo won the senior 10km titles in the men’s and women’s categories in the 2023 edition that was staged in Bathurst, Australia before going on to defend their laurels in the 2024 Belgrade edition.

Chebet clocked 31:05 to win the 2024 title while Kiplimo crossed the finishing line in a time of 28:09.

Same age

The two great runners, who have become household names in villages and towns across their countries are both aged 24.

However, Chebet is slightly older than Kiplimo. The latter was born on November 24, 2000 while Chebet’s date of birth is March 5, 2000.

2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalists

Kiplimo and Chebet won gold medals for their countries in the 2022 Commonwealth Games that was staged in Birmingham, England.

Chebet clinched the title in a time of 14:38.21, beating Scotland’s Eilish McColgan (14:42.14) and Selah Busienei (14:48.24) in the process.

Similar to the Londiani Secondary school product, Kiplimo also bagged the 5000m title in a time of 13:08.08.

Junior World Cross Country Championships champions

Chebet and Kiplimo broke into the limelight at the Junior World Cross Country championships stage where they secured the coveted gold medals for the nations.

Chebet won the title at the 2019 edition that was held in Aarhus, Denmark while Kiplimo made Uganda proud in the 2017 version that took place in Kampala.

Finally, the other parallel thing regarding Kiplimo and Chebet is that they run under the same management called Rosa Associati Management.

Some of the other stars that represent this management include Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi and the Kenyan trio of Ruth Chepngetich, Titus Kipruto and Brigid Kosgei.
