KCB Rugby’s Samuel Asati and George Ooro will continue to co-captain the side, maintaining their leadership roles.

Patrick Odongo, the team’s top try scorer, has also made the cut. Meanwhile, Jone Kubu, who broke into the squad this season, retains his place alongside seasoned campaigners Kevin Wekesa, Vincent Onyala, Denis Abukuse, and Brian Tanga.

In Los Angeles, Kenya’s campaign kicks off against Samoa on May 3rd at 9:28 PM.

They then face Portugal at 12:51 AM on May 4th before wrapping up their pool matches with a clash against the USA at 9:28 PM on the same day.

The squad has been rigorously preparing at Nakuru Athletic Club, aiming to secure a top-four finish and thus maintain their status in the elite tier of the 2026 HSBC World Series.

Wambua on squad selection and team preparations

Speaking on the team’s preparations, Wambua emphasized their focus on fine-tuning every aspect of their game ahead of the matches.

The camp has been good and the sessions were great, we focused on polishing our set piece and attack frameworks and also re enforced our defense. The mood within the camp has been good and the boys are ready,” he told KRU Media

On the squad selection, Wambua admitted it was a challenging process due to the depth of talent available.

It was indeed a headache but a good headache because of the quality we have within the set up. John Okoth and Chrisant Ojwang who are back from injuries pushed hard for their slots but we decided to stick with the same team that played in the Asian tournaments,” he explained.

Turning attention to Pool A, Wambua emphasized the importance of starting strong.

“Focus is on our first game which will give us momentum for the rest of the games. We know Samoa are a quality side but we have done our homework on them and know how we will approach that game.” he concluded.

Shujaa will depart on the evening of Sunday, April 27th, en route to the HSBC SVNS Los Angeles playoffs.
