Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala and his younger brother Isaac Omurwa are set to represent Kenya in the 2025 World Athletics Relays Guangzhou Championships.

Omanyala and Omurwa will feature in the 4x100m men’s relay team in the event that is scheduled to take place from May 10 to May 11 in Guangzhou, China.

Omanyala, who holds the African 100m record, expressed his excitement on Friday morning and gave Omurwa a pat on the back of the achievement.

“Congratulations to my brother Isaac Omurwa for making your first senior national team. It will be a blessing and joy to run alongside you at the world relays in China,” he stated.

The two brothers will be joined by the trio of Meshack Babu, Moses Wasike, Steven Onyango and Mark Otieno in the 4x100m relay team.

A good performance by the team in Guangzhou will motivate them ahead of the upcoming international competitions such as the World Athletics Championships that will take place in Tokyo, Japan in September.

Meanwhile, besides the 4x100m men’s relay team, Kenya will be represented by two other squads in the highly anticipated squads. These squads include the 4x400m men’s and 4x400m women’s relay teams.

The 4x400m men’s relay team is made up of Brian Tinega, Kelvin Kiprotich, Kevin Kipkorir, David Sanayek, Wiseman Were and Allan Kipyego.

On the other hand, Mercy Oketch, Esther Mbagari, Hellen Syombua, Mercy Chebet, Gladys Mumbe, Vanice Kerubo, Lanoline Owino and Mary Moraa will feature in the 4x400m women’s relay team.

Omanyala to compete in 2025 Xiamen Diamond League

Omanyala, who has already competed in a couple of races this year, is currently preparing for the Xiamen Diamond League that will go down on Saturday, April 26 before joining the world relays team for the residential training.

Besides Omanyala, some of the other Kenyan stars that have been confirmed for the Xiamen Diamond League include Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet, and Caroline Nyaga.

Chebet and Nyaga will battle it out in the 5000m race against the likes of Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, who set the current world record of 14:00.21 over the distance a few years ago, while Omanyala and Kipyegon are among the entries in the 100m and 1000m in that order.
