- Nicanor Arum unseated former SG Sam Ocholla after being elected Gor Mahia Secretary General on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
- Arum has reaffirmed plans for a club overhaul, stating that some players do not deserve to be part of the Gor Mahia squad.
- Arum’s sentiments echo those previously expressed by head coach Sinisa Mihic, who called for a reassessment of the team a few weeks ago.
Newly elected Gor Mahia Secretary General Nicanor Arum has delivered a bold message to the players, declaring an imminent overhaul to weed out underperformers who, in his view, are unworthy of donning the club jersey.
Arum, who was elected on Sunday, April 13, unseated the former SG Sam Ocholla with 582 votes against Ocholla’s 501 to clinch the influential seat.
Speaking after his victory, Arum vowed to initiate sweeping reforms, particularly targeting the playing unit.
He emphasized that some members of the squad no longer merit a place at the club and would be shown the door.
We have to revisit—and that, I cannot change. We have to revisit the playing image. There are players who do not deserve to be in the club, and that, I have to tell you without batting an eye,” Arum said bluntly.

He further pointed out that some foreign players have failed to justify their place on the team.
There are also foreigners who do not deserve to be there. Yes, some of those players are not even in the first eleven—or even the second, if I may say so,” he added.
Arum echoes Mihic’s call for a Gor Mahia overhaul
Arum’s sentiments echo those of newly appointed head coach Sinisa Mihic who, two months ago into his tenure, publicly criticized underperforming players and demanded a squad overhaul.
“If they are professionals and not putting in the effort, I can leave tomorrow. But the problem is not that. We have players from outside who contribute nothing to the club—they’re just walking. You cannot be part of Gor Mahia like that,” Sinisa angrily siad after the Bidco match that the team was held to a draw.
“The team needs a refresh. If I’m the coach, or any coach, we need to replace some players—they are not suited for Gor Mahia.”

As the record Kenyan champions pursue their 22nd league title and a potential third in a row, they currently sit third on the log with 46 points, trailing leaders Kenya Police by just three, but with a game in hand.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia secured a hard-fought victory over Bandari over the weekend to reach the FKF Cup quarter-finals.
The club is aiming for a domestic double this season, which would mark their twelfth FKF Cup triumph.
The return of star striker Benson Omalla has further boosted their ambitions. Omalla made an immediate impact, scoring in the Cup match and propelling K’Ogalo into the next round.
