- Henry Omollo scored the decisive goal as Kakamega Homeboyz beat AFC Leopards 1-2 over the weekend.
- All three goals that Omollo has scored for Homeboyz since his signing have come after he was brought off the bench.
- Omollo is currently training with the national U-20 team as they prepare for the 2025 AFCON in Egypt.
Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Francis Baraza has lauded rising star Henry Omollo as a pivotal player following his late strike that secured them a dramatic 1-2 victory against AFC Leopards over the weekend.
Omollo came on as a substitute during the match in Dandora on Saturday when the score was still tied after Moses Shumah had equalized Victor Omune’s opening goal.
However, after being introduced in the second half to replace Shumah, Omollo scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute, giving Abana Ba Ingo the lead and the eventual victory.

This is not the first time Omolo has scored in the dying moments of a game.
All three of his goals for Baraza’s side have come in the final minutes. In a 1-4 loss to Shabana at Gusii Stadium, Omollo scored a late restoration goal in the 95th minute.
He also found the back of the net in the 5-0 thrashing of Nairobi City Stars, scoring the fifth goal in the dying minutes.

Having played a key role in securing four points from AFC Leopards in what is known as the “Ingo Derby,” Baraza hailed Omollo as a consistent player who always causes trouble for opponents whenever he steps onto the pitch.
Henry Omollo is a player who is very consistent. As you can see, we brought him in during the mid-transfer window, and in every match he has come on as a substitute, he has been a key player and a problem for the opposition,” Baraza told Azam TV after the match.

Why Omollo has been missing Kakamega Homeboyz trainings
The coach further explained that despite Omollo not regularly training with the team due to his commitments with the U-20 national team, he always delivers when called upon.
He is currently with the U-20 team, so we haven’t been with him much, but the moment he steps onto the field, we know his impact. He’s a natural performer who follows instructions, and he always delivers. Look at last season when he was playing in the NSL, he was the top scorer. So, for him to score is not surprising. I told him to position himself well, and when the ball came, he finished it,” Baraza added.
Baraza also noted that the 2023/24 NSL top scorer has already proven to U-20 head coach Salim Babu that he is capable of making the final squad for the AFCON tournament in Egypt.
“This performance is a boost for him, especially with the U-20 team. He’s showcasing his abilities, and right now, the coaches are finding it difficult to make their final selections due to the high level of competition. His ability to score late goals will make it easier for them to decide. I think they will now seriously consider him for the final squad,” Baraza said.
