Gor Mahia
  • The Gor Mahia vs KCB match will kick off at 4:00 PM EAT at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
  • Gor Mahia are on a nine-match unbeaten streak, leaving them in third place, five points behind Kenya Police.
  • In their last five matches, Gor Mahia have not defeated KCB.

Kenya’s top-flight record champions Gor Mahia will travel to Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday aiming to secure maximum points that will bring them closer to leaders Kenya Police when they take on KCB.

Gor Mahia come into the game following a barren draw against AFC Leopards in the first leg of the Mashemeji derby which was played at Nyayo National Stadium the previous weekend.

As a result, K’Ogalo currently sit in third place in the standings with 43 points, five behind the league leaders Kenya Police who have 48 points and have played one more match.

Furthermore, Gor Mahia’s recent strong form has been impressive, remaining unbeaten in their last nine league games (5 wins, 4 draws).

Their most recent loss was in mid-January when they were defeated 1-2 by Tusker.

For the 21-time top-flight champions to claim their 22nd title, they need nothing less than maximum points in their remaining 10 matches.

Meanwhile, KCB will not be easy opponents for Gor Mahia as they sit just three points behind them in fourth place with 40 points.

Like Gor, KCB also need to secure victories in their remaining fixtures to stay in contention for the title or a top-three finish.

Patrick Odhiambo’s side is coming off a frustrating 2-2 draw with Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend. Despite taking the lead twice, KCB failed to hold onto their advantage.

Derrick Otieno gave the Bankers the lead early in the first half, but Moses Shumah equalized shortly after. Stephen Etyang put KCB ahead again, but Peter Thiongo’s goal ensured the match ended in a draw.

At home, the Bankers have had the upper hand, winning seven, drawing four, and losing just twice in their 13 home matches this season.

Their most recent home defeat was a 1-2 loss to Posta Rangers.

KCB confident they can still win the league

Despite recent setbacks, KCB’s assistant coach Jeff Odongo remains confident that they can still win the title.

“We are still in the Premier League title race. The leaders are just seven points ahead of us, and with nine matches remaining, there are plenty of points to play for. We will fight until the very end,” Odongo said after the draw against Kakamega Homeboyz.

Mihic on mission for three points against KCB

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia’s head coach Sinisa Mihic is determined to take nothing less than three points from the Bankers on Sunday.

“We had hoped to secure maximum points against AFC Leopards but only managed one. Our goal now is to defeat KCB and close the gap to Kenya Police,” Sinisa told The Star.

Sinisa also emphasized that his team will be focusing on improving their finishing as they aim to collect maximum points in the remaining matches.

“Finishing has been an issue, but I am here to address it,” he acknowledged, understanding the historical context of the team’s challenges.
