- Agnes Jebet Ngetich won the 2025 Sirikwa Classic Cross Country title in a time of 32:42.
- Ngetich was followed by Janeth Chepngetich and Miriam Chebet in that order.
- Multiple Olympic Games champion Faith Kipyegon dropped out of the race in the final stages.
Agnes Jebet Ngetich once again proved why she is rated as one of the best long distance runners in the country when she won the 2025 Sirikwa Classic Cross Country title.
Ngetich overcame a deep field that had the likes of the reigning 1500m world record holder Faith Kipyegon, Miriam Chebet and Janeth Jepngetich to clinch the coveted title.
The Iten based runner ran a tactical race that saw her break away from the leading park at the earlier stages.
As the race continued, Ngetich braved the difficult sunny conditions and opened a considerable gap between her and Kipyegon.

Kipyegon, who won two medals for Kenya in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, tried her best to catch up with Ngetich but the latter never looked back.
With less than two laps remaining to the end of the 10km senior women’s race, Kipyegon dropped out much to the disbelief of thousands of spectators who had turned out in large numbers at the Lobo Village in Eldoret City.
On the other hand, Ngetich switched on the gears and went on to cross the finishing line in an unofficial time of 32:42.
The Kapkenda Girls High School alumni was followed by Chepngetich with Chebet completing the podium positions. Chepngetich clocked 33:52 while Chebet finished in a time of 34:09.

Ngetich, who told SportPesa Blog earlier this week that her attention will shift to the upcoming Grand Slam Track after today’s event, received a cheque worth $6000 (approximately Ksh 780,000 as per the current exchange rate) for her gallant display.

Meanwhile, Jepngetich and Chebet were each awarded a prize money of 650,000 and 520,000 respectively.
Ngetich is expected to use the victory as a motivation towards achieving her main goal of winning a medal for Kenya in the 2025 World Athletics Championships that is planned to take place in Tokyo, Japan in September.
As for Kipyegon, she will go back to the drawing board and prepare for the upcoming Xiamen Diamond League where she will compete in the 1000m race. The event will take place on April 26 in China.
