Daniel Simiu Ebenyo clinched the 2025 Sirikwa Classic Cross-Country title in commanding fashion.

Ebenyo, who bagged the Athletic Kenya (AK) Cross Country title a few weeks ago at the Eldoret Sports Club, produced a powerful display to retain his title.

He produced an outstanding kick in the final stages of the race and went on to cut the tape in a time of 29:57.

Ebenyo, who has represented Kenya in numerous international competitions including the 2023 World Road Running Championships where he finished second behind compatriot Sabastian Sawe, was followed by Gideon Ronoh and Nicholas Kipkorir.

Ronoh proved to be too strong for Kipkorir at the homestretch as he went on to finish the race in 30:07 with the latter clocking 30:15.

Meanwhile, Titus Kiprotich (30:20), Robert Kiprop (30:22) and Bernard Langat (30:22) settled for fourth, fifth and sixth positions in that order.

The victory was a sweet one for Ebenyo since he successful defended the title he secured in the 2024 edition of the event.

The National Police Service (NPS) runner clocked 29:16 last year to win the race ahead of Ishmael Kipkurui and Weldon Langat.

Therefore, the sunny conditions that was witnessed today at the Lobo Village might have made him to run a slower race.

Ebenyo was awarded $6000 (approximately Ksh 780,000 as per the current exchange rate) for winning the race while Ronoh and Kipkorir each bagged Ksh 650,000 and Ksh 520,000 in the order.

Elsewhere, Reynold Cheruiyot clocked to triumph in the men’s 2km loop ahead of Phanuel Kipkosgei and Franklin Kosgei.

On the other hand, Purity Chepkirui won the women’s 2km loop laurel with Lilian Odira and Daisilah Cherono settling for second and third positions respectively.
