- Defending champions Strathmore Leos crashed out at the pool stage, guaranteeing that the 2026 Prinsloo 7s will crown a new champion.
- Action resumes on Sunday, at the Nakuru Athletic Club, with KCB, Kabras, Daystar, MMUST, Blak Blad, Nakuru RFC, Quins, and Nondies battling for the title.
The Prinsloo 7s will crown a new champion in the 2026 edition after defending champions Strathmore Leos fell short of reaching the Main Cup quarterfinals as the opening leg of the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit got underway in Nakuru.
Leos suffered a rude awakening on Saturday morning after falling 19-14 to MMUST RFC at the Nakuru Athletic Club in their Pool B opener, a result that stunned the back-to-back champions.
Last season’s SportPesa Sevens overall runners-up failed to rediscover their rhythm despite thrashing Kisumu RFC 36-0 in their second fixture.

They were then held to a 5-5 draw by another university side, Daystar Falcons, who matched their intensity throughout the contest.
Patrick Odongo crossed over for the Falcons’ opening try before Samuel Wafula restored parity for Leos.
In the end, the draw proved costly as both teams finished on four points, but the Falcons advanced to the Main Cup quarterfinals on points difference. They joined MMUST, who progressed unbeaten with nine points.
Another upset in the opening leg of the expected six-stop SportPesa 7s Circuit saw Menengai Oilers miss out on the quarterfinals.
Despite receiving a walkover in their opening fixture againsgt Impala , the Oilers failed to capitalize after defeats to Blak Blad and regional rivals Nakuru RFC, finishing third in Pool D.
The results saw Wan Yudhee and Wanyore secure the two quarterfinal spots.
Kabras Sugar topped Pool A with a perfect nine points, with Kenya Harlequins finishing second.
KCB Rugby dominated Pool C, also advancing unbeaten as they look to improve on last season’s runners-up finish, while Nondies claimed the second qualification spot.
With a new Prinsloo 7s champion now guaranteed, the remaining teams will undoubtedly raise their level on Sunday with the title at stake, each hoping to launch their SportPesa Sevens Circuit campaign on a winning note.
