The race for the first silverware of the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit reaches its defining moment on Sunday as the Prinsloo 7s shifts into the do-or-die main cup quarterfinals at Nakuru Athletics Club.
After a fiercely contested opening day that produced breathtaking breaks, crunching tackles and dramatic late tries, only eight teams remain in the hunt for Cup glory.
Kabras RFC, MMUST Rugby, KCB Rugby and Kenyatta University Blak Blad all marched into the quarter-finals with flawless records, but with knockout rugby now taking centre stage, every possession, every turnover and every defensive stand could determine who keeps their title ambitions alive.

The Cup quarter-finals get underway at 10:40 am with Kenya Cup champions Kabras RFC locking horns with Daystar Falcons.
Kabras negotiated a difficult pool campaign, sealing top spot with a narrow 12-10 victory over Kenya Harlequin in a contest that tested both their defensive resilience and game management.
Daystar Falcons, meanwhile, squeezed into the last eight after battling to a crucial draw against Strathmore Leos and will be eager to upset one of the tournament favourites.
An hour into the Cup action, Kenyatta University Blak Blad will take on Nondescripts RFC in what promises to be another entertaining encounter.
Blak Blad have been among the standout performers in Nakuru, displaying clinical finishing and disciplined defence to sweep through their pool unbeaten. Their victory over Menengai Oilers underlined their credentials as genuine title contenders.
Nondescripts, however, have steadily grown into the competition after recovering from an opening-day defeat and will be looking to dominate the breakdown and slow down KU’s free-flowing attacking game.
Perhaps the headline fixture of the quarter-finals arrives at 11:20 am when tournament surprise package MMUST Rugby face Kenya Harlequin.
The university side has turned heads throughout the tournament with composed performances, dispatching Strathmore Leos before adding victories over Daystar Falcons and Kisumu RFC to finish top of their pool.
Their ability to recycle quick ball and punish defensive lapses has made them one of the most dangerous attacking outfits heading into the knockout rounds.
Standing in their way are Kenya Harlequin, a side renowned for thriving under pressure. Despite suffering a narrow defeat to Kabras in their final pool fixture, Quins possess the experience and physicality required for knockout rugby and will fancy their chances of ending MMUST’s unbeaten run.
The last Cup quarter-final pits defending National Sevens Circuit champions KCB Rugby against hosts Nakuru RFC at 11:40 am.
KCB cruised through the pool stages without tasting defeat, but their biggest examination could come against a Nakuru side lifted by passionate home support. The hosts secured their place in the last eight after edging local rivals Menengai Oilers and will be determined to make home advantage count.
While the spotlight will be on the battle for Cup honours, teams eliminated from title contention will continue their campaign in the Challenge Trophy.
Mwamba RFC open the Challenge quarter-finals against Kisumu RFC before Menengai Oilers tackle NYS Spades. Strathmore Leos face Embu RFC, while Catholic Monks square off against Impala RFC as each side looks to salvage a strong finish to the opening leg of the circuit.
The women’s competition will also gather momentum with the quarter-finals kicking off from 8:40 am before progressing to the semi-finals later in the day.
By late afternoon, the finalists will have emerged, with the men’s Cup final scheduled for 5:04 pm after a full day of uncompromising sevens rugby.
With semi-final spots on the line and the Road to the Safari Sevens gathering pace, Nakuru is set for another day of explosive carries, fierce contests at the breakdown and thrilling end-to-end rugby as teams chase an early statement in the 2026 National Sevens Circuit.
