KCB Rugby eye 11th crown as Kenya Harlequin chase historic Impala Floodlit glory

Impala Floodlit final 2026
  • KCB Rugby and Kenya Harlequin meet in the 2026 Impala Floodlit final.
  • The showdown is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 7:30 pm.
  • The final will be a repeat of the 2014 decider, where KCB defeated Quins 30–3 to lift the trophy.

Twelve years ago, Andrew Amonde and Patrice Agunda were on the pitch, battling it out for the Impala Floodlit crown.

Back then, they were players, and when the dust settled in 2014, it was Amonde’s KCB who emerged victorious, beating Agunda’s Quins 30–3 in the final.

Fast-forward to 2026, and the two men find themselves here again, only this time, things are alittle different. The boots have been replaced by tracksuits, and the battle has shifted from the pitch to the technical bench.

Now, as KCB Rugby and Kenya Harlequin prepare to face off in the final of the 43rd edition of the Impala Floodlit on Saturday, October 31, at 7:30 pm, the stakes are high.

Record champions KCB head into the grand finale seeking an 11th title, having enjoyed an impressive run from the quarter-finals.

The Bankers toppled former back-to-back champions Menengai Oilers 31–24 before being paired with Mwamba RFC in the semi-finals, where they delivered another commanding performance, winning 64–11.

KCB are back in the final for the first time in two years, having missed the last two editions.

They will be seeking to reclaim the crown they last won in 2023. Back then, Amonde was an assistant coach, having only recently begun his transition into coaching.

On top of that, it will be an opportunity for Amonde to clinch his first 15s title as head coach, capping what would be a fairytale moment after seeing the Kenya Cup crown slip through his fingers last season when KCB lost to perennial rivals Kabras Sugar in the final.

“We know the final will present a different challenge, and we must remain focused, improve on the areas that need work and prepare thoroughly for Kenya Harlequin. Our objective is to finish the tournament strongly and lift the trophy,” the former Kisumu High School alumnus said ahead of the title-deciding clash.

For Quin, this will be a defining moment. They will be seeking not only revenge for their 2014 defeat but also their first title in 28 years, having last lifted the trophy in 1998 after beating the same KCB side in the final.

Making their first final appearance in 12 years, Quins navigated past Kenyatta University Blak Blad 16–10 in the quarter-finals before edging Nondies 28–24 in the semi-finals.

While Agunda will be eyeing revenge from the technical bench, he will also be looking to guide his side to their fourth tournament title.

However, he believes the competition presents an opportunity to gain valuable experience rather than simply chase silverware.

“I do not view Floodies purely in terms of winning a trophy. I see it as part of a bigger journey in which we must learn to embrace tough games, build courage, and develop the qualities we need to succeed,” he said.
