KCB Rugby clinch fifth consecutive Kabeberi 7s title after narrow win over Strathmore Leos

• KCB Rugby beat Strathmore Leos 14–12 to win the 2026 Kabeberi 7s title.
• That marked their fifth consecutive Kabeberi 7s title on a day when the Leos made it to their first season final.
• The Kabeberi 7s marked the third leg of the 2026 SportPesa 7s circuit, with KCB winning their second title this season.

KCB Rugby won their fifth consecutive Kabeberi 7s title after narrowly beating a resilient Strathmore Leos side 14–12 on Sunday afternoon at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

Prior to the third leg of the 2026 SportPesa 7s Circuit, the Bankers were seeking a record fifth title and their seventh overall in the 37th edition of the George Mwangi Memorial Kabeberi 7s.

They had managed to beat Kenya Harlequins 26–7 in the semifinals to return to the final after missing out in Dala 7s.

They have now secured their second title of the season, having also triumphed at the opening Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru.

Meanwhile, it was heartbreaking for the Strathmore Leos boys, who had enjoyed an impressive run over the weekend, reaching their first final of the season after staging a remarkable comeback to beat Menengai Oilers in the semifinals.

KCB made their intentions clear from the outset, and as they pressed forward, Brian Wahinya collected the ball from the ruck on the right wing before offloading to George Ooro, who dived between the posts to give his side the opening seven points after Wahinya added the extras.

Leos looked promising from the restart, only for the Bankers to overturn possession. A slick move on the right saw Vincent Onyala offload to Michael Wekesa, who made no mistake as he crossed the line to double his side’s advantage after Wahinya successfully converted.

However, Leos found space on the right wing, where Gabriel Ayimba received a well-timed offload and powered through the gap, beating Wahinya and Onyala to reduce the deficit as Arnold Muita successfully converted.

Just before half-time, Victor Mola spotted Ayimba on the same right wing, and the Shujaa man beat his markers before touching down for a well-taken try.

The conversion was unsuccessful, setting up a thrilling second half with just two points separating the sides.

The Andrew Amonde-led KCB outfit remained resolute in defence and held firm against a relentless Leos attack to preserve their slender advantage and lift the title.

Elsewhere, Menengai Oilers claimed third place with a 20–17 victory over Kenya Harlequin.

Hosts Mwamba RFC secured fifth place after defeating Daystar Falcons 19–10.

In the women’s competition, Mwamba Ladies retained the Kabeberi 7s title with a 12–7 victory over Kenya Harlequin, completing a hat-trick of circuit titles after also triumphing at the Prinsloo and Dala 7s. Impala Roans finished third after beating Pioneer Ladies 25–5.
