Sharrif Musa honours father in heartwarming Gor Mahia coronation moment
But one of the standout moments of the day in the packed and festive coronation atmosphere was Gor Mahia’s speedy winger Sharrif Musa inviting his father to join him during the medals presentation at the centre of the pitch.
Musa was spotted holding his father’s hand as he received his gold badge. He did not wear it himself; instead, he put it on his father, and they strolled together down the red carpet for the trophy celebrations – a rare sight in the world of football.
Speaking exclusively to SportPesa during the coronation ceremony after receiving his medal, an emotional Sharrif said having his father by his side meant everything to him. He described him as his hero and dedicated the league title to him.
“This means so much to me because my father is the person who has kept me going throughout my journey. The way you see him wearing this medal, it’s not mine it’s his. It means a lot. My mother passed away, but he has always stood by me every single day since I was a child. ‘Thanks so much, Dad. I have reached this point because of you’,” Sharrif Musa told SportPesa.
Meanwhile, his father Sabini was equally proud of his son’s achievement. He revealed that he was once a footballer himself but never reached great heights in the game and is delighted to see his son succeed.
“I feel so happy for my son because I was also a player, but I did not achieve much in football. All my energy and support have gone into him, and I congratulate him. May he go far and achieve even more than he dreams of,” Musa’s father said.
Sharrif joined Gor Mahia in January 2024 and has developed into one of the club’s most influential players.
Under the guidance of Charles Akonnor, he has become a regular starter and played a key role in helping K’Ogalo reclaim the SportPesa League title.

The 23-year-old featured in all 34 league matches this season, delivering outstanding performances. He scored six goals, provided seven assists, and created more than 30 chances for his teammates.
Sharrif was named Player of the Match several times during the campaign and also earned seven Team of the Week selections. He further made history by winning the inaugural Player of the Month award in October 2025.
