- Gor Mahia crowned SportPesa League champions but close the season with a 1-0 defeat to Nairobi United on Sunday, May 31.
- Enock Machaka scored the decisive goal for the NaiBois in the first half at Nyayo National Stadim.
- Gor Mahia finished the season at the summit with 69 points, five ahead of second-placed AFC Leopards, who ended the campaign on 64 points.
Gor Mahia lifted the 2025/26 SportPesa League title for a record-extending 22nd time, but Sunday’s 0-1 home loss to Nairobi United at a festive Nyayo National Stadium was far from the perfect way to cap off the campaign.
K’Ogalo, who could have wrapped up the season with an impressive 72-point tally, saw that target slip away after Enock Machaka’s first-half header condemned them to defeat, leaving the record champions to finish the campaign with just 69 points.
Heading into the match, Gor Mahia’s only objective was to end the season on a positive note, as the dead-rubber encounter had no bearing on their title triumph, as they had already been crowned champions on May 24 after rivals AFC Leopards fell to APS Bomet.

For the party spoilers, there was no sweeter way to conclude the season than to beat the champions and finish strongly in their debut campaign, where they have managed to land a top-four spot, ending in fourth place on 53 points.
They managed to give Gor Mahia the guard of honor and were the first to threaten just 11 minutes into the match when Paul Ochuoga, advancing down the right flank, delivered a dangerous cross into the box, but Ebenezer Assifuah failed to connect, keeping the contest evenly balanced.

Nairobi United, however, looked lively and nearly broke the deadlock through Duncan Omalla, who squandered a close-range opportunity.
Four minutes before the half-hour mark, they crafted a brilliant move from the left wing. Kevin Otiende found Omalla, who floated a superb volleyed cross from the right side into the path of Machaka, whose header proved decisive.
The second half saw a determined Gor Mahia push for an equaliser, but the NaiBois’ defence remained resolute, denying the champions a winning finish on their celebration day and preventing them from reaching the 70-point milestone.

Meanwhile, in the other fixtures on the final day of the SportPesa League season, Kariobangi Sharks did everything possible to preserve their top-flight status, but the relegation axe still fell despite a commanding 6-0 victory over already-relegated Sofapaka.
Despite the emphatic win, results elsewhere did not favour them. Mathare United edged Bandari FC 1-0, while Ulinzi Stars secured a 1-0 win over Posta Rangers, leaving the Sharks in 16th place with 38 points, while the other two sides climbed to 41 points.
AFC Leopards, on the other hand, suffered a 2-1 defeat to already-relegated Bidco United at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, bringing to a close what has otherwise been one of their strongest seasons in recent years, despite the title slipping away late in the campaign.
