  • Joe Waithira (Murang’a SEAL) was the sole player to retain his spot in the Team of the Week from Gameweek 32.
  • Ulinzi Stars and Nairobi United were the only club to feature two players in the Best XI (Boniface Muchiri and Paul Okoth) and( Dan Wafula and Bernard Jairo ) respectively.

The penultimate round of the SportPesa League season concluded on Sunday, with eight of the nine scheduled matches played. The fixture between Mara Sugar and Gor Mahia remains pending following a ruling from the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).

Crucially, Gor Mahia were crowned champions without kicking a ball after AFC Leopards failed to secure a victory against APS Bomet.

Goalkeeper

Bernard Jairo ( Nairobi United 6.7)The Nairobi United custodian was one of the standout performers in the goalless draw against Kenya Police coming out to receive high claims and making several saves to maintain the scoreline.

The Defense

RB: Dan Wafula (7.8) — Nairobi United

In a highly physical encounter at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, the bulky right-back repaid head coach Godfrey Oduor Solo’s trust. Wafula effectively kept Kenya Police’s speedy winger, Erick Zakayo, at bay for the majority of the match to earn his spot.

CB: Abud Omar (7.7) — Kenya Police FC

The Law Enforcers’ vice-captain delivered another defensive masterclass since his conversion from left-back to center-back. Omar dominated Sunday afternoon’s fixture, racking up 13 clearances, 2 interceptions, 1 ball recovery, and creating 1 chance, all while maintaining an 80% pass accuracy.

CB: Bernard Ondiek (7.5) — Posta Rangers

Ondiek anchored a disciplined Mailers backline to secure a late 1-0 victory over KCB at Kasarani, helping his side register only their second clean sheet in ten matches.

LB: James Mazembe (7.1) — Shabana FC
The left-back put on a tireless performance in a -1 draw against Sofapaka at the Nyayo National Stadium. Mazembe created 2 chances, made 5 interceptions, won 2 aerial duels, completed 3 progressive passes, and recorded an impressive 92% pass accuracy.

The Midfield

Clifford Otieno (7.4) — Bandari FC

Otieno was the driving engine behind the Dockers’ crucial 1-0 victory over Tusker FC. He ran the midfield show, creating 3 chances, making 2 shot attempts, blocking 2 plays, winning 4 balls, and finishing with a 90% pass accuracy.

Faiz Opande (7.9) — Kariobangi Sharks

The versatile defender-cum-midfielder salvaged a vital point for the relegation-threatened Slum Boys at the Police Sacco Grounds. Opande scored a late equalizer in a 2-2 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz, capping off a performance that included 3 shots, 6 interceptions, 1 block, and an 87% pass accuracy.

The Attack

LW: Boniface Muchiri (7.2) — Ulinzi Stars

The Soldiers’ vice-captain returns to the Team of the Week after leading Ulinzi Stars to a remarkable late comeback victory against Mathare United on Saturday afternoon.

RW: Philip Wasai (7.4) — APS Bomet

The Administration Police officer turned the title race on its head, scoring a quickfire brace in the span of three minutes to defeat AFC Leopards 2-1 at the Kericho Green Stadium—a result that officially handed Gor Mahia the league title.

Wasai was named Man of the Match, hitting double figures for the season (10 goals) after registering 4 shots, 2 ball recoveries, and 4 touches in the opposition box.

CF: Paul Okoth (8.0) — Ulinzi Stars

The highest-rated player of the round put on a Man of the Match performance as Ulinzi defeated Mathare United 2-1. Okoth scored a clinical second-half brace, taking his season tally to 16 goals—just three shy of the Golden Boot leader Waithira .
He registered 5 shots, 5 touches in the opposition box, and created 1 chance.

CF: Joe Waithira (7.9) — Murang’a SEAL

The league’s top scorer officially surpassed Moses Shummah’s previous benchmark of 17 goals by netting a brilliant first-half brace against Bidco United, bringing his season tally to 19.

Waithira was named Man of the Match after recording 4 attempts, 5 touches in the opposition box, and a 75% shot accuracy.

Coach of the Week: Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ — APS Bomet

The April SportPesa League Coach of the Month takes home Coach of the Week honors for the third consecutive week.
Pamzo inadvertently handed his former employers, Gor Mahia, the league crown by mastermindng a 2-1 upset over AFC Leopards in Kericho.

Under his guidance, Bomet have now won 7 consecutive matches and remain unbeaten in their last 10 outings.
