APS Bomet head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo remains convinced that his side will retain their top-flight status despite being locked in a relegation scrap in their debut season.
The Bomet-based outfit are still adjusting to the demands of the SportPesa League, but Omollo’s calm confidence ; forged through years of firefighting jobs has begun to rub off on the squad as the business end of the season approaches.
APS Bomet currently sit 15th on the standings following a 2-1 home defeat to Gor Mahia over the weekend. After 20 matches, the league debutants have registered four wins, six draws and ten defeats, leaving them with little room for error with 14 games remaining.

Their numbers underline the challenge: 22 goals scored and 29 conceded, the highest goals-against tally in the SportPesa League so far.

Yet the former Harambee Stars defender insists that the bigger picture is far from bleak. Speaking after the Gor Mahia loss, he stressed that performance levels particularly in possession and attack suggest APS Bomet are moving in the right direction.
“I told the players and even the management that I know we are going to survive the league. When you lose against Gor Mahia and you play well, I think you just have to be proud,” Omollo said.
“The teams that are below us, and maybe a few teams that are ahead of us, we need to get wins from them. But otherwise, the foundation is there. Everything is working.”

The former Shabana Head coach was especially encouraged by his team’s attacking intent and composure on the ball, even as he acknowledged that defensive lapses continue to cost them.
“We are comfortable on the ball, and going forward I’m impressed. It’s just about defending, because I believe the two goals they scored were cheap goals that we could have managed better,” he added.
Omollo’s confidence is rooted not just in belief, but in history. The experienced tactician has built a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable survival specialists.

He joined APS Bomet with the team already staring at the relegation zone, but his track record suggests he is well equipped for the task.
Last season, he masterminded a late escape with Posta Rangers, guiding them to safety when many had already written them off. Before that, he also played a key role in helping Shabana FC beat the drop in another tense campaign.
Those repeated rescue missions have earned Omollo a fitting nickname in local football circles “ Big Sam” a nod to the veteran British coach Sam Allardyce, renowned for his own ability to steer struggling clubs away from relegation.
Like his namesake, Omollo thrives under pressure, focusing on structure, belief and picking up crucial points in so-called six-pointers.
That approach will be tested again this Sunday when APS Bomet face defending champions Kenya Police FC at Police Sacco Stadium from 2pm in a crucial Police Derby.
It is exactly the kind of fixture Omollo has identified as decisive matches against teams in and around them where wins can swing momentum.
As the relegation battle intensifies, APS Bomet will lean heavily on Omollo’s experience and proven survival instincts. With performances improving and belief intact, the club’s top-flight dream remains firmly alive.
