SportPesa League leaders Gor Mahia are looking to place a firmer grip on the title when they host champions Police FC on Sunday afternoon.

K’Ogalo come into the game leading the standings with 64 points, five more than their closest challengers AFC Leopards. Police follow closely in third place with 51 points.

Police are reeling from a 2-1 win against Murang’a in midweek, stretching their unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions. They will be out for revenge after losing 2-0 in the reverse fixture last November.

Gor edged Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in their last league outing and are looking to make it three wins on the bounce here. The record Kenyan league winners are inching ever closer to an unprecedented 22nd title.

Gor need just two points from the remaining four games left and it seems almost impossible for them to lose out on yet another league title. We can expect a cagey encounter, with best and second best defensive records in the land go up against each other.

Police have conceded just 18 goals in 30 games, while Gor have let in 19. The leaders have been the most lethal in an attacking sense with 46 goals scored, mighty compared to Police’s 28.

We have a look at both teams ahead of the mouthwatering clash and offer our predicted outcome.

Gor Mahia vs Police team news

The hosts were boosted by the news of the return of their top scorer Felix Oluoch earlier this week. The striker who has scored seven goals this term, has recovered from a knee injury and is back in training but may settle for a place on the bench.

Shariff Musa and Ezekiel Adukwaw have taken up the goalscoring rights in his absence and the duo will start here.

Alpha Onyango, the hero in the Mashemeji derby win, will also retain his place in the starting XI. The rest of the side will remain unchanged from the side that started in the win against Homeboyz.

Police captain Abud Omar scored the winning goal in midweek against Murang’a to make it goals in successive games and will lead the defense here.

Eric Zakayo and Yves Koutiama have also been in fine form in recent weeks and will lead the attacking line, while the rest of the team remains unchanged.

Gor Mahia vs Police head-to-head and current form

Gor have lost just once in their last five games, a 1-0 league defeat to Tusker. They are seeking a third consecutive win here.

The defending champions are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions and have only dropped points twice in their last five games.

Police are however the better team in recent matches with two wins from the last five head-to-head matches, compared to one Gor Mahia victory.
