Kenya Police head coach Nicholas Muyoti has boldly declared that his team is still in the race for the Sportpesa League trophy. Even though they are facing the league leaders Gor Mahia this Sunday, the coach believes his players are ready to fight until the very end of the season.

The team has been playing well lately and has not lost a match in a long time. Muyoti says that playing against a big team like Gor Mahia is enough to make his players work even harder. He wants to show everyone that the defending champions are still a very strong team.

“I think from the time I came, the progression has been very well. The confidence has been growing and I’m happy what the players are giving. I think the output is very positive,” Muyoti stated. “Just looking into this match, we are not done with the title. I think we are still in it, we are still fighting and we’ll fight till the end.”

The upcoming fixture at Nyayo National Stadium represents more than just three points for the third-placed side; it is a chance to halt K’Ogalo’s momentum as they inch toward a 22nd league title. Gor Mahia currently sits at the summit with 64 points, but Muyoti believes his players are primed for the challenge.

“Of course, tomorrow’s match against Gor Mahia is a perfect opportunity for us to send a good statement. I believe my players are ready and just the fact they’re facing Gor Mahia is a good motivation in itself,” he added. “The boys know that the league is running away from them, but they’ve told me that they’re still in it.”

Alongside their league ambitions, they have successfully navigated their way into the semi-finals of the FKF Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Shabana Fc over the weekend.

Muyoti emphasized that the intensity of cup competition has sharpened the team’s competitive edge.

“So the fight is still on. And also for the cup, I think for the league we have to keep pushing till the final match and for the cup same. I think the cup brings a different competition and yeah, we’ve prepared very well, very well. And I hope and I’m counting on my players to make sure that we are winners of the cup,”the former AFC Leopards midfielder concluded.

Muyoti not throwing in the towel on SportPesa League title defence, says Kenya Police are still in the race

Sunday’s match is expected to be a tight affair as it features the league’s two most disciplined defenses. Kenya Police currently boast the best defensive record in the land, having conceded only 18 goals, while Gor Mahia follows closely with 19.

This will be put to the test as Police seek to avenge the first-leg result from November 2025, where Gor Mahia emerged 2-0 winners at the same venue thanks to goals from Felix Oluoch and Shariff Musa.
