- This final leg of Series Two is being held at Estadio Nicolau Alayón in São Paulo, Brazil, from March 28–29.
- Shujaa will aim to carry that same momentum later in the day as they face Belgium at 7:12 pm.
The men’s national rugby 7s side, Shujaa, kicked off the third and final leg of the HSBC SVNS 2 on a high note as they came from behind to dismantle second-placed Germany 38-7 on Saturday evening at Estadio Nicolau Alayon in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Shujaa, who sit third on the overall log, need at least two wins to put themselves in a solid spot for qualification to the World Championship Series – which is the pathway to the HSBC SVSN 1 next season – and they did not disappoint in their first match.
To ensure they went all in, Shujaa kicked off by avenging their loss in the second leg last weekend, where they had narrowly fallen to the same German side 12-7.

Germany were the first to draw first blood just two minutes into the game as they pinned Shujaa in their own half.
They managed to carve out a chance on the left wing, executed well, and grabbed their opening try through Jakob Dipper, which was successfully converted as they took the early 7-0 lead.
However, Shujaa, who looked brimming with confidence, managed to equalize just a minute after the restart.
Samuel Asati kicked the ball off the front which speedster Patrick Odongo grabbed and went all the way to the bottom of the posts, leveling the scores at 7-7 after Nygel Amaitsa knocked over the conversion.
Onyala then collected a nice offload on the left side, powered through, and stretched Shujaa’s advantage with a try of his own in the fifth minute, as Amaitsa stayed on target and added the extras.
Just seconds before halftime, Odongo nabbed his second of the day after George Ooro offloaded a slick pass to him.
Odongo shrugged off the German defense and went all the way to extend the Kenya 7s side’s lead to 21-7 after Amaitsa nailed the conversion, sending them into the break with a comfortable cushion.
Kevi Wambua charges, kept up their dominance in the second half, and it was Onyala on the right who latched onto a nice assist from scrum-half Asati. Onyala was tackled just short of the line but stretched out to give Kenya a commanding 26-7 lead.
Festus Shiasi spotted Ooro on the left wing moments later, and Ooro with precision sliced through to push Shujaa’s advantage to 31-7 before Denis Abukuse sealed the win in the final minutes, with David Nyagige adding the extras.
Having set the tone, Shujaa will aim to carry that same energy later in the day as they take on Belgium at 7:12 pm, and will look to keep the momentum rolling after Belgium also crushed USA, the overall top seeds.
