The national 7s side Shujaa’s head coach Kevin Wambua says they will be going all out in the final leg of the 2026 HSBC SVSN 2 to try and bring the Sao Paulo leg title home.

Shujaa will be in action on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, as they compete in this concluding third round of the Series 2 in Brazil at Estadio Nicolau Alayon.

They hope to finish strongly to keep their World Championships aspirations alive, as well as their hopes for the HSBC SVNS 1 next season on the line.

Shujaa coach Kevin Wambua eyes Sao Paulo title in HSBC SVNS 2 final leg

The Kenya 7s side travels to Brazil sitting in third place, having clinched the bronze medal in the opening leg held in Nairobi, while they also secured third in the second leg in Montevideo, Uruguay, last weekend. They will be looking to build on that momentum.

“First of all, I think we’re on the right path. There’s been some consistency. We know we need to finish top four in these three legs for us to qualify for the championship,” Coach Bling told SportPesa ahead of the demanding weekend.

Wambua believes the squad is strong enough to put up a fight across the weekend and deliver positive outcomes.

“There’s been a very good positive vibe this week. There’s been a lot of ownership, a lot of leadership from the players themselves, which means the atmosphere is good and the focus is sharp. So I’m just waiting for the weekend. I’m pretty sure they’re going to put their best foot forward and they’re going to give us the results that we want,” he added.

While in third with 32 points, four points above fourth-placed Uruguay, Wambua states that their plan is to ensure they win the first two matches on Saturday and solidify their position for the championship.

He believes that after achieving that, they can then focus on clinching this final leg title.

“Probably we’re going to chase a better position. We finished third the last two tournaments. We’ve had a discussion whereby we know we are good enough to finish in the top two and that’s what we’re going to chase. So we have two goals.

Our first goal is to make sure we win the first two games so that we get into the championship. And then after we win the first two games, see if we can go all the way and just take this last leg and bring it back home,” he added.

Shujaa Sao Paulo fixtures

Shujaa will kick off their campaign against second-placed Germany on Saturday at 4:22 pm EAT, hoping to avenge their loss to them in the second leg in Montevideo.

Then they will face Belgium in their second match of the day at 7:12 pm, before wrapping up day one with a clash against Canada at 10:21 pm, hoping to bag all the victories and set the tone heading into day two.

On day two, they kick off the proceedings with a mouthwatering fixture where they will be taking on table-toppers USA at 5:44 pm.

The USA is the only side they have not beaten in this series, and they will be hoping to make it count this round. They will then wrap up this stage with a clash against Uruguay.

Once all three legs are wrapped up, the top four teams will join the top eight from the World Championship Series in their own three-leg event, while the bottom two will drop in the regional level for next season.

In the end, the top eight out of the 12 teams will lock in their spot in SVNS Division 1 for 2027, and the bottom four will drop to Division 2 for next season.
