Harambee Stars defender Zak Vyner played the entire match as Wrexham AFC secured an impressive 2-1 comeback victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, signing off for the international break on a high in the English Championship.

The Kenyan international delivered a solid performance in midfield as Phil Parkinson’s side showed resilience and tactical discipline to overturn an early deficit and complete a league double over the Blades.

Wrexham went into the match looking to bounce back after their recent defeat to Watford, and they showed great determination against a Sheffield United side that started the game strongly.

The hosts created several early chances, with Patrick Bamford coming close to opening the scoring in the 11th minute after a quick counterattack, but he dragged his effort wide despite having a clear sight of goal.

The visitors gradually settled into the game, with Josh Windass heavily involved in Wrexham’s attacking play. Windass, who was jeered by the home fans due to his past association with Sheffield Wednesday, tested goalkeeper Adam Davies on several occasions.

While Issa Kaboré and Lewis O’Brien also tried to create openings in the first half. Sheffield United also threatened through Gus Hamer and Callum O’Hare, but Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo stood firm to keep the scores level at halftime.

Sheffield United eventually broke the deadlock early in the second half when Andre Brooks reacted quickest to tap in the rebound after Okonkwo parried Bamford’s shot. The goal gave the hosts momentum, but Wrexham responded quickly to show their character and composure.

Just six minutes later, Wrexham found the equalizer when Sam Smith broke through on the left and squared the ball for Windass, who calmly slotted home to restore parity. The goal shifted the momentum in Wrexham’s favor, and they began to push forward with greater confidence.

The decisive moment came in the 78th minute when Zak Vyner played a crucial role in the build-up, spreading the play wide to Kaboré, who delivered a precise cross to the back post. Smith timed his run perfectly and produced a diving header to give Wrexham a deserved lead, completing a brilliant turnaround.

Sheffield United pushed for a late equalizer, with Brooks and substitute Tom Davies coming close in the closing stages, but Wrexham’s defense remained organized and composed to hold on for the victory in front of 27,997 fans at Bramall Lane.

Vyner’s full-match performance highlighted his growing importance in Wrexham’s setup, as he provided stability in midfield and helped initiate attacking moves, including the build-up to the winning goal. The Harambee Stars defender continues to gain valuable experience in the English Championship, strengthening his case as a key player for both club and country.
