The 2026 Enterprise Cup cross-border quarterfinal fixtures delivered a shocker on Saturday as Kenya’s giants KCB Rugby were dumped out of the competition by Ugandan side Stanbic Bank Pirates in a tightly contested clash played at the Muteesa II Royal Stadium, Wankulukuku in Kampala.

The narrow 11-10 loss saw KCB become the sole Kenyan side bundled out of the tournament, with 2025 finalists Menengai Oilers and the defending champions Kabras Sugar advancing to the last four, where they will be joined by Nondies.

Pirates, the Ugandan league champions, are the only team from their country to make it to the semifinals in a competition they are returning to after over two decades.

The event has largely been a Kenyan affair, and with that in mind, they will be aiming to replicate their run and clinch the title, silverware last lifted by only one Ugandan team, the now-defunct Kampala RFC, who have ever gotten their hands on this historic prize. They did so four times, claiming it in 1956 and achieving a three-peat from 1968 to 1970.

Pirates played with intent from the start and were rewarded for a disciplined performance.

Didi Ruhweza was instrumental in the win, bolstering the Pirates pack, while Conrad Wanyama was rightly named man of the match for his tenacious display as the Ugandan side secured a famous result.

“According to me, I believe our performance was okay, but for the coaches, Monday is going to be a tough day at the office because we lost a couple of opportunities, we could have closed out really quick,” stated Ruhweza.

He, alongside Ariho Muhumuza and Nathan Bwambale, shouldered much of the responsibility in the front row, with his experience proving invaluable.

“Today’s session was an eye-opener. At least we are in the top four in the region, but the aim is to be the best in the region. It is going to take a lot of dedication, discipline and wanting it,” explained Ruhweza.

To replicate a dominance not witnessed in ages, having been absent from this tournament for so long, Pirates have been placed alongside Nondies in the semifinals scheduled for April 11.

Nondescripts, who have won the title 25 times, will be keen to extend their supremacy over Ugandan opposition after dispatching another side in the quarterfinals at the ASK Nakuru Showground, where they beat KCB KOBS 29–13.

Meanwhile, another thrilling semifinal will be on offer – a Kenyan affair where defending champions Kabras Sugar will take on last year’s finalists, Menengai Oilers.

The Oilers ran riot over Ugandan side Toyota Buffaloes at the ASK Showground Nakuru, beating them 60-15, while Kabras maintained their dominance after dismantling another Ugandan outfit at home, thrashing Heathens 61-19 to set up that exciting semifinal in April.
