- Kenya 7s name squad for Uruguay and Brazil consisting of 14 players.
- The squad sees two additions with Gabriel Ayimba and Brian Tanga coming in.
- Shujaa need to finish in the top 4 by the end of the Brazil tournament.
The men’s national rugby 7s head coach Kevin Wambua has officially named a 14-man squad for the upcoming HSBC SVNS 2 tournaments in Montevideo, Uruguay and Sao Paulo, Brazil as the team chases promotion to Division 1.
In a move that prioritizes continuity, Wambua has retained the entire twelve-man squad that recently competed in the season-opening Nairobi leg where the team put on a spirited performance in front of the home crowd at Nyayo Stadium.
The squad is heavily anchored by KCB Rugby Club which contributes five players including co-captains George Ooro and Samuel Asati. They are joined by clubmates Vincent Onyala, Festus Shiasi and Floyd Wabwire.
The Menengai Oilers provide the duo of John Okoth and Dennis Abukuse while Kabras Sugar is represented by the physical Kevin Wekesa and Brian Tanga.

Strathmore Leos Nygel Amaitsa, Nakuru RFC’s Chrisant Ojwang and the explosive Patrick Odongo from the Daystar Falcons are also part of the squad.
Rounding out the twelve is the rising talent David Nyangige.
The squad for the South American tour sees two significant additions to provide depth for the demanding back-to-back weekends. Gabriel Ayimba, son of the late legendary Shujaa coach Benjamin Ayimba, earns a notable inclusion.
Joining him is the experienced Tanga who makes a return from a lengthy injury.
Alongside Wambua, assistant coach Louis Kisia, strength and conditioning coach Andrew Amonde and team manager Eric Ogweno will continue to oversee the team’s preparation and welfare.

The squad recently concluded a high-intensity residential camp at Kasarani Stadium, focusing heavily on the errors that cost them in their loss to the USA.
The Montevideo leg, scheduled for March 21–22 serves as the second stop in the three-tournament HSBC SVNS2 circuit and represents a season-defining opportunity for Shujaa.
By the end of the third leg in Brazil taking place from 28-29 March, Shujaa need to be in the top four out of the six teams to get a ticket to the HSBC SVNS World Championship.
Following their third-place finish on home soil in Nairobi where they earned 16 points, the team now travels to Uruguay sitting just behind the USA with 18 points and current leaders Germany 20 points in the overall standings.
