The Kenya 7s sides Shujaa (men’s national team) and the Kenya Lionesses (womens team) have learned their schedule for the second leg of the HSBC SVNS 2 set to take place in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Set for March 21–22, this second leg is crucial for both teams as they chase promotion to the HSBC SVNS 1 next season.

Kenya hosted the opening leg of this revamped tournament earlier in February, where six men’s and six women’s teams went head-to-head at the Nyayo National Stadium, cranking up the intensity ahead of the final two legs.

Germany’s men’s team and Uruguay’s women’s side emerged as champions in Nairobi, heading into this second leg perched at the top of the table with 20 points each.

As for Shujaa, although they did not quite hit their stride on home soil, they will be hungry for redemption after finishing third in the first leg.

They went unbeaten across the weekend of February 14–15 against Canada, Belgium, Uruguay, and Germany, only to fall 21–5 to the USA 7s in the tournament final match.

So Kevin Wambua’s men head to South America holding more than just a grudge, they are out for revenge and aiming to boost their standings.

They currently sit third with 16 points, just behind the USA in second with 18.

Shujaa have ramped up their preparations and will face familiar foes, determined to fix any slip-ups from Nairobi. Wambua made it clear that their sole mission is to reclaim a spot in the HSBC SVNS 1.

“The boys are sharp, focused, and ready. Our goal is to get back to the main series stage – nothing less. Every session in this camp is geared toward that objective,” Wambua stated.

Their second-leg campaign kicks off with a fiery rematch against the USA Eagles 7s on Saturday, March 21, at 6:32 pm EAT and they will be eager to avenge their Nairobi loss.

After surviving a tight contest with Canada, they will face them again in the day’s second match at 9:20 pm EAT, then wrap up Saturday with a clash against Belgium at midnight.

Sunday’s action features two fixtures: Germany at 9:55 pm, followed by a final showdown against Uruguay at 12:48 am (Monday).
