- New Tusker coach Julien Mette claimed his first win against Murang’a Seal.
- It was his second game in charge at the club after replacing Charles Okere.
- Mette acknowledged that catching league leaders Gor Mahia might be out of reach.
Newly appointed Tusker FC head coach Julien Mette has admitted the SportPesa League title is far from reach after celebrating his first win with the club following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Murang’a Seal at Wang’uru stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Mette acknowledged that while catching league leaders Gor Mahia might be out of reach, his focus remains on progress and in the FKF Cup competition.
“I think that Gor Mahia is too far now so in terms of title, winning the league, it’s over. I’m here to help the team to progress and be able to compete in the Cup, but also to win every game. Let’s try to have the best position on ranking at the end,” he noted.

In his post-match reflection, Mette expressed deep gratitude toward the club’s leadership and praised his players for their dedication and discipline during the transition period.
The French tactician was quick to highlight the warm reception he has received since arriving at the Ruaraka-based side.
“Personally, I’m very happy because I’ve worked a lot and I’m happy also for the chairman, for the board of Tusker, for CEO, for all the guys here who have welcomed me as I have never been welcomed in Africa,” he remarked.
He further commended his squad’s professional attitude, noting that they have been highly disciplined in following his new instructions.
“They follow me and they follow instructions. They are very disciplined and I’m very happy to work with them and so happy for them for the three points today,” he noted.

Mette compared the performance to his debut match that resulted in a 1-0 loss to Shabana, noting that progress is not always easy to come by.
” It’s not because we have won that we are better today than on Saturday. Saturday we did a very good game and that’s football. Today the second half we have suffered, but we maintained, we kept the clean sheet.
If we love football, it is because we never know the end. It’s not like in a movie or other sports. So every game has changed, but we remain the same in terms of intention, in terms of playing as a unit and giving the best for the fans and the board,” he said.
Mette joined Tusker following the departure of Charles Okere and took charge of his first game against Shabana which ended in a narrow 1-0 loss at Gusii Stadium.
Despite that initial setback, the brewers looked impressive on the pitch and were finally rewarded with a win against Murang’a Seal.
The brewers will play away to Kariobangi Sharks over the weekend before taking on Kakamega Homeboyz and playing AFC Leopards in quick succession.
