SportPesa League fans are in for a thriller on Thursday as AFC Leopards visit KCB in Round 21 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasaran from 4:15 EAT.

AFC Leopards are determined to secure nothing less than three points as they chase maximum results to keep their SportPesa League title hopes alive.

They aim to pile more pressure on rivals and table-toppers Gor Mahia who currently lead with 46 points while Ingwe sit second on 40 points.

KCB vs AFC Leopards preview

Ingwe have enjoyed an impressive run this season, and reclaiming a title that has eluded them for over 20 years feels within touching distance.

They remain the only team with the fewest defeats – just two compared to the rest of the pack.

They have suffered only one loss in their last 13 outings, alongside four draws and eight wins most recently a 2-1 victory over Posta Rangers, which got them back to winning ways after a goalless stalemate against Bandari FC.

A win on Thursday would be a major boost for Fred Ambani’s men as they build momentum ahead of a weekend showdown with another red-hot side in Shabana FC who drew level on 40 points following a narrow 1-0 win over Mathare United on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, KCB will be desperate to end their inconsistent run and rediscover their winning touch.

Robert Matano’s charges have gone two matches without a victory after a 1-1 draw with Kariobangi Sharks was followed by a heavy 3-0 loss to Gor Mahia last weekend.

At home, things have been particularly bleak for the Bankers, who have seen their fortress breached repeatedly.

They have not registered a single win in their last five home games, losing three and drawing two. Their last home victory came in December last year, when they beat APS Bomet 4-2.

They will therefore be eager to turn things around on home turf, aiming for just their third win in 11 home matches and doing so against title contenders would make it even sweeter.

Speaking ahead of the clash, KCB head coach Robert Matano stated that his side is ready despite coming off a loss to Gor Mahia. He believes that defeat has fueled their motivation going into this encounter.

“We lost against Gor Mahia, and that has motivated us. The loss left us with more hunger and determination. We will work harder and stay well organized to correct our past mistakes.

AFC Leopards are similar to Gor – we have seen how they operate, and we’ve prepared to counter them and take our chances,” Matano said.

On the other hand, AFC Leopards defender Kayci Odhiambo, who scored in the last match against Posta Rangers, revealed that the team has been sharpening key areas in training.

“We’ve focused heavily on defensive shape and quicker transitions,” Odhiambo told the Star.

“At this stage of the season, small errors can be costly. We’ve analyzed our last game and worked on improving our game management, especially in the closing stages.”

Odhiambo acknowledged KCB’s strength in midfield and on the break.

“They are strong in duels and can counter quickly. We must control the midfield and deny them space between the lines. Discipline will be crucial.”

The first meeting between these two sides this season, saw AFC Leopards claim a 2-1 victory, extending their dominance over KCB to four matches; two wins and two draws. Both teams will now enter this clash with contrasting ambitions.
