SportPesa League action continues this weekend as Kakamega Homeboyz prepare to host Sofapaka on Friday February 20, in the first match of Round 21 at the Bukhungu stadium with kickoff slated from 1pm.
Following their impressive 4-1 victory over Bidco United last time out in Murang’a, Homeboyz return to their hunt for a maiden league title, while the visitors arrive in Kakamega desperate to spark a survival bid.
This match will mark the final game before the sending off defender Silas Abungana who was brutally murdered over a domestic dispute.

Kakamega Homeboyz look to inflict more pain on Sofapaka
Abungana is scheduled to be taken out of the morgue on Friday afternoon, hours after the match and will be laid to rest on Sunday.
Kakamega Homeboyz enter this fixture in high spirits, currently sitting fifth on the log with 31 points. Their last win was a tribute to their departed defender, Silas Abungana.

Now firmly in the title conversation, Abana Abeingo look to maintain their momentum and close the gap on league leaders Gor Mahia.
Sofapaka, by contrast, are enduring one of the most difficult periods in the club’s history. Once the kings of Kenyan football, Batoto ba Mungu are currently rooted to the bottom of the table with just 14 points from 20 matches.
Coach Patrick Odhiambo is likely to maintain the core of the squad that dismantled Bidco.
With the departure of midfielder Hillary Otieno to APS Bomet, the gaffer has turned to youth, with Calvin Akala expected to continue his development in the engine room alongside the experienced Moses Mudavadi while Zinedine Wesonga could get some second half minutes after scoring on his debut against Bidco.
Head Coach Patrick Odhiambo remains focused on the process despite the huge win.
“At this stage, concentration and discipline are what win you games. Small lapses are punished at this level, and that is where we have dropped points recently. “

On his part interim coach Abdallah Juma believe the mid season signings could help revitalise the club.
“The situation demanded that we bring in more than ten new players in the mid-season window which is a huge gamble, but we needed fresh blood. Every match now is a final for us. We are fighting for the life of this club.”
In their last meeting in October 2025, Homeboyz secured a narrow 1-0 win away from home.
Over their last five encounters Kakamega Homeboyz have two wins with Batoto Ba Mungu equally having two Wins and one match ending in a draw.
A win for Kakamega Homeboyz could potentially move them into third place depending on other results later on in the weekend.
Victory for Sofapaka would lift them one spot from bottom position to 17th.
