- Gor Mahia brace for 2026 FKF Cup clash against giant killers BB Bread.
- The minnows knocked out AFC Leopards in the first round of the cup competition.
- The match is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of March 7–8
Gor Mahia’s Administrative Manager Ronald Ngala has welcomed the challenge of facing the tournament’s most talked-about underdog following the official draw for the 2026 FKF Cup Round of 32 concluded at the Kasarani Stadium on Thursday.
The record champions are set to host BB Bread FC, a Nairobi Regional East Division side that sent shockwaves through Kenyan football by eliminating AFC Leopards in the round of 64.
Reacting to the pairing after the draw, Ngala expressed respect for the lower-tier side and determination to return the trophy to the K’Ogalo cabinet. He emphasized that the club is not taking the regional minnows lightly, especially given their recent reputation
“It feels good that we are meeting a team which eliminated one of the giants in Kenya and I think we are prepared,” Ngala stated shortly after the draw.
He revealed that the technical bench has already been briefed on the challenge ahead.

“I was just speaking to my coach just a few minutes ago, he really wanted to know our next opponent and we are happy that we are playing home to a team which we believe is going to give us a good game for the tournament,” he said.
Despite the disparity in the leagues between the two sides, Ngala warned against any form of complacency as he noted that in a knockout competition, status means little once the whistle blows.
“There is always no small team in this tournament. You take it as an opponent and you play as if you are playing your equal,” he added, acknowledging that BB Bread’s win over Ingwe serves as a clear warning to any top-flight side.
For Gor Mahia, this year’s campaign is fuelled by the heartbreak of the previous season. After falling short in the 2025 final against Nairobi United, the club is prioritizing the FKF Cup to secure a return to continental football.

Ngala made it clear that anything less than the title would be a disappointment.
“We thought we would carry it last year and we missed it. This year we are going the same way, full throttle. We must carry the trophy so we are prepared for it,” he concluded.
The match is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of March 7–8 with the venue to be officially confirmed by the federation in the coming days.
Gor Mahia qualified by defeating Siaya-based side Dero FC 2–0 in their Round of 64 match held on February 7 at the Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu thanks to first-half goals from Samuel Kapen and Levin Odhiambo.
