Reigning SportPesa League champions Kenya Police FC extended their winless streak to six matches, handing new coach Nicholas Muyoti a 1-1 draw in his debut against his former employers, Nairobi United, at the Police Sacco Stadium.

The Round 17 fixture saw both goals scored by Kenya Police players in the second half.

Nairobi United took the lead when Jacques Ndecke inadvertently headed into his own net, before Yves Kotiama restored parity minutes later following a neat assist from Edward Omondi.

For Muyoti, who recently parted ways with Nairobi United before taking charge of the law enforcers following the dismissal of Serbian coach Dusan Stajonovic, the draw was likely an unsatisfying start.

It extends his new side’s run to five draws in six winless outings, with only one defeat in that span.

Played on Monday evening, the match was largely cagey, with both sides locked in a tightly contested midfield battle.

The clearest opportunity of the first half came on the half-hour mark when Nairobi United earned a free kick on the right wing.

Shami Mwinyi Kibwana stepped up and unleashed a thunderous strike toward the far corner, only for the effort to crash against the woodwork and deny the visitors the opening goal.

Just before halftime, Police were forced into an early substitution, with Ally Awesu replaced due to injury by Eric Zakayo. Both sides entered the break after a largely drab first period.

The second hour offered little excitement, with both teams creating similar opportunities but failing to find a breakthrough.

However, eight minutes after the hour mark, Nairobi United managed to draw first blood through an unfortunate own goal.

Jacques Ndecke headed into his own net under pressure after a brilliant low cross from Ovella Ochieng on the right wing.

Just as NaiBois believed they had secured an away victory, the law enforcers equalized in the 82nd minute.

Yves Kotiama finished clinically from a well-placed cross delivered by substitute Edward Omondi, following a composed buildup by David Simiyu.

After the goal, Muyoti men pushed hard for a winner, but the NaiBois defense held firm. The sides ultimately shared the points.

The result marks Police’s fourth consecutive draw, leaving them fifth with 25 points, while the league newcomers move to 24 points and seventh place both climbing one position from before.
