AFC Leopards produced a sensational tw-minute comeback deep into stoppage time to edge a resilient APS Bomet 2–1 on Saturday evening at Nyayo Stadium, reclaiming the SportPesa League summit.

Substitute Philip Wasai appeared to have sealed victory for Bomet when he struck just two minutes after coming on in the 83rd minute.

However, with seven minutes of added time remaining, Ingwe mounted a breathtaking late revival.

Another substitute, Christopher Koloti, restored parity with a composed finish from a perfectly weighted assist by Victor Omune.

In less than a 60 seconds, Ronald Sichenje completed the turnaround in dramatic fashion after Kelly Madada delivered a teasing cross into the box.

APS struggled to clear their lines, and a deflection fell kindly to Bebeto, who made no mistake to hand Ingwe three priceless points in the final match of the first leg of the SportPesa League season.

It nearly went awry for Fred Ambani’s side, who were close to a third seasonal defeat and dropping vital points in the title race.

Instead, the result propelled them back to the summit with 33 points, three clear of second-placed rivals Gor Mahia.

For Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo’s charges, it marked a fifth consecutive match without a win, leaving them 16th with 14 points after 16 matches.

The first half-hour passed with both sides creating similar opportunities but failing to convert.

Bomet had the first clear chance shortly after kickoff, but Humphrey Katasi denied them. Ingwe later crafted three opportunities; one was missed by Samuel Semo, and Samuel Ssenyonjo squandered another in the 27th minute.

Just after the half-hour mark, Ingwe came close to taking the lead.

A promising move down the right wing saw Kelly Madadi swing the ball to James Kinyanjui, who surged forward and delivered a brilliant cross into the box, and Ssenyonjo met it, but his shot sailed just wide, leaving the match a cagey affair.

Five minutes later, Ingwe fashioned another chance. Tyson Otieno whipped a low cross with his left foot to Semo in the left corner of the box, but his shot was blocked for a corner that came to nothing.

The first 45 minutes concluded goalless despite AFC Leopards dominating much of the play, unable to find the final touch.

The second half began with the Pamzo-led side on the front foot, creating two good chances in the early minutes. One was cleared well by Musa Oundo, and the second required a sharp parry from Katasi to keep the scores level.

Three minutes into the hour mark, Ingwe found their rhythm and created a promising opportunity in the left corner. Tyson Otieno managed to lift the ball over the bar despite having space to attempt a low, driven shot.

Ssenyonjo wasted another clear chance seven minutes later, his powerful header from a brilliant Victor Otieno cross sailing over the bar.

Fortune continued to evade Ingwe as they created further opportunities. A good link-up between Ssenyonjo, Otieno, and Tyson broke down due to hesitant shooting, wasting the buildup. A similar follow-up chance fell to Tyson, who also missed.

Against the run of play, Ingwe conceded with just seven minutes of regular time remaining.

A poor defensive decision cost them possession, allowing Maxwell Kubasu to chip a crisp cross into the box. Super-sub Philip Wasai, with a thunderous finish, punished Ingwe to give Bomet the lead.

Meanwhile Ingwe substitute, Victor Omune, had a clear chance to equalize, but his effort was gathered comfortably by goalkeeper Bob Centric.

With seven minutes of added time signaled at Nyayo, Bomet believed they had secured all three points.

However, AFC Leopards orchestrated a brilliant two-minute turnaround. First, captain Victor Omune surged through the center and crisply passed to fellow substitute Christopher Koloti, who tapped a volley into the net to level the score.

Seconds after the restart, Kelly Madadi collected the ball, dribbled brilliantly down the right wing, , and unleashed a cross that confused the APS Bomet defense.

Their attempted clearance deflected onto Ronald Sichenje, who finished coolly driving a thorn into Bomet’s side and sparking massive joy for Ambani’s team and their supporters, who filled nearly half of Nyayo Stadium.
