Samuel Ssenyonjo delivered a stunning hat trick, propelling AFC Leopards to a commanding 0-4 victory over Tusker FC on Sunday evening at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The Ugandan international opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the match and secured his brace ten minutes later.

With this result, they have extended their lead to three points, bringing their total to 30 after 16 matches. Gor Mahia, having dropped points in Gusii, now trail in second place with 27 points.

The opener came from a fluid midfield link-up between Tyson Otieno and the sensational winger James Kinyanjui, who delivered an excellent cross from the right wing.

Ssenyonjo evaded Eugene Ikutwa behind him and tapped the ball home, giving Fred Ambani’s side the lead.

Another defensive error by the Brewers saw confusion between goalkeeper Brandon Obiero and Thomas Teka, who misread Emmanuel Lwangu’s volleyed cross, allowing Ssenyonjo to tap in again and double Ingwe’s advantage before halftime.

Just two minutes into the second half, Ingwe widened their margin further as Tusker were caught out in a pressing situation.

Ssenyonjo calmly laid off a crisp back pass to Bebeto, who confidently slotted home with his right foot.

In a match where Charles Okere’s side will rue their defensive lapses, they conceded a penalty after Chrispine Erambo brought Ssenyonjo down in the box.

The former Express FC forward coolly converted the spot kick, securing all three points for Ingwe as they continued to lead the standings, while Tusker started the year on a disappointing note.
