AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani reveal the bold tactical shift that inspired his side’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over APS Bomet.

The SportPesa League Coach of the Month nominees for December have been officially unveiled, with three tacticians standing out after guiding their respective teams through an intense and decisive end to 2025.

AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani, Tusker FC’s Charles Okere and KCB’s Robert Matano have all earned nominations following impressive runs that helped shape the title race and the overall complexion of the SportPesa League standings.

As has been the case for the two months since its inauguration in October and November, the December winner will walk away with a cash prize of KSh 75,000 courtesy of league sponsors SportPesa, alongside a personalized Coach of the Month trophy, recognition that continues to motivate technical benches across the league.

SportPesa League Coach Of The Month nominees for December

Fred Ambani – AFC Leopards

Fred Ambani’s nomination is a testament to the steady progress and renewed belief he has instilled at AFC Leopards. December proved to be Ingwe’s most productive month of the season, as Ambani guided the club through four matches without tasting defeat.

Leopards recorded three wins and a draw, scoring four goals, conceding just once and keeping an impressive three clean sheets.

The run began in emphatic fashion with a 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Gor Mahia, a result that immediately set the tone for the month. Ambani’s men then showed defensive resilience in a hard-fought goalless draw against defending champions Kenya Police.

Confidence continued to grow as Ingwe edged Ulinzi Stars 2-1 before closing the year with a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Bidco United.

That final victory lifted AFC Leopards to the top of the league summit for the first time this season, capping off a memorable December and underlining Ambani’s growing influence at the den.

Charles Okere – Tusker FC

Tusker head coach Charles Okere also finds himself among the nominees after masterminding a strong December run that kept the brewers firmly in the title conversation.

Okere led Tusker to three wins in four matches, with the side scoring four goals, conceding just once and keeping three clean sheets numbers that reflect both balance and discipline.

Tusker kicked off the month with a slim 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars before delivering a convincing 2-0 win against Sofapaka.

Their only blemish came in a 1-0 loss to Nairobi United, but Okere’s charges responded well, closing the year with a hard-earned 1-0 triumph over APS Bomet.

That consistency saw Tusker tighten the gap on the league’s front runners, reinforcing their credentials as genuine title challengers.

Robert Matano – KCB

Veteran coach Robert Matano completes the December shortlist after steering KCB through a demanding schedule that produced three wins from four matches.

The bankers began the month with a 1-0 victory over Matano’s former side Sofapaka, followed by a 2-1 win against Ulinzi Stars.

The highlight of their December run was a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over APS Bomet, showcasing KCB’s attacking potential.

However, the month ended on a sour note with a 3-1 defeat to Shabana at Kasarani Stadium. Despite that setback, KCB scored eight goals, conceded six and kept one clean sheet, results that were enough to earn Matano a deserved nomination.

With all three coaches making compelling cases, December’s Coach of the Month award promises to be keenly contested, once again highlighting the tactical depth and competitiveness of the SportPesa League.
