AFC Leopards returned to the top of the SportPesa League table after a disciplined and clinical 2-0 victory over Nairobi United at Nyayo Stadium, thanks to an own goal in the first half and a composed second-half strike from Kelly Madada.
Coach Fred Ambani rang the changes following Leopards’ narrow 1-0 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz, handing starts to Kelly Madada, Emmanuel Lwangu, Samuel Ssenyonjo and Victor Otieno.
Nairobi United, on the other hand, stuck with the same starting eleven that had beaten Shabana 3-1, despite the absence of head coach Nicholas Muyoti from the touchline.

Leopards began the match with intent and were rewarded in the 19th minute.
Tyson Otieno swung in a dangerous corner from the right, and under pressure, Nairobi United forward Michael Karamor unintentionally diverted the ball into his own net, handing the visitors an early advantage.
The game opened up after the goal, with both sides committing numbers forward.
AFC Leopards nearly doubled their lead just past the half-hour mark when Victor Otieno found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Ernest Mohammed, but the Nairobi United shot-stopper stood firm to make a comfortable save.

Kelly Madada remained lively throughout the half and came close in the 38th minute, unleashing a long-range effort that drifted narrowly wide as Leopards went into the break with a slim advantage.
Early in the second half, AFC Leopards should have sealed the contest when Ronald Sichenje rose unmarked inside the box, but his effort went wide, keeping Nairobi United in the game.
Sensing the need for change, Nairobi United assistant coach Salim Ali introduced experienced midfielders Shami Kibwana and new signing Roy Okal in search of an equaliser.
Fred Ambani responded decisively, withdrawing Tyson Otieno for Bonface Munyendo and later introducing Mashemeji Derby hero Julius Masaba. The substitutions shifted the balance, allowing Kelly Madada more freedom to operate in advanced areas.

The tactical adjustment paid off in the 70th minute. Madada combined brilliantly with Samuel Ssenyonjo, slicing through the Nairobi United defence before calmly finishing to double Leopards’ lead and effectively seal the contest.
Nairobi United pushed forward in the closing stages, resorting to long balls into the box, but AFC Leopards remained resolute at the back, defending with composure to see out the win.
The victory lifts AFC Leopards to the top of the SportPesa League standings with 27 points, one ahead of arch-rivals Gor Mahia. Nairobi United, meanwhile, will have to regroup quickly as they look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
