Record SportPesa League champions Gor Mahia underlined their title credentials with a ruthless 4-1 victory over struggling Kariobangi Sharks, a result that saw K’Ogalo reclaim top spot on the league standings while deepening Sharks’ woes at the bottom of the log.
Goals from Benstanley Omondi, Ebenezer Aduk-waw, Samuel Kapen and substitute Felix Oluoch capped a dominant performance by Gor Mahia, who once again asserted their growing dominance over Kariobangi Sharks in recent league meetings.
At the Kasarani stadium, Sharks welcomed back captain Kevin-Luke Otiala to the starting XI alongside Victor Ngume, both having missed the previous draw against Sofapaka.

For Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor, the absence of attacking midfielder Austin Odhiambo who recently completed a move to Lebanese side Nejmeh SC saw Benstanley Omondi handed a midfield role, while long-serving skipper Philemon Otieno earned his first start of the season.
Gor Mahia demolish Kariobangi Sharks 4-1
The opening exchanges saw both sides settle into the contest, with Gor Mahia enjoying the lion’s share of possession.
Sharks, however, remained compact at the back, doing well to break down Gor Mahia’s long diagonal switches and wing play in the early stages.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 19th minute through a moment of quality. Left-back Bryton Onyona delivered a teasing cross into the box which Patrick Essombe cleverly cushioned into the path of Benstanley Omondi.
The midfielder made no mistake, unleashing a powerful strike that flew past goalkeeper Collins Omondi to give Gor Mahia the lead.
Kariobangi Sharks nearly responded seven minutes later when Victor Ngume found space inside the box, but his effort drifted wide, summing up a frustrating evening in front of goal for the visitors.
Just before the interval, Sharks thought they had equalised when Markvivan Kesa poked the ball into the net in the 45th minute, only for the assistant referee’s flag to rule it out for offside.
Moments later, Gor Mahia doubled their advantage. A long, accurate pass from Sylvester Owino released Ebenezer Aduk-waw down the left flank.
The winger showed excellent control to beat his marker before calmly slotting home, sending K’Ogalo into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Both coaches made changes at halftime, with Sharks boss William Muluya introducing Wayne Otieno for Victor Ngume in a bid to spark a comeback. Akonnor responded by bringing on Felix Oluoch for Aduk-waw.
Sharks emerged with renewed intent after the restart, committing more bodies forward and forcing Gor Mahia into uncharacteristic errors in their own half.
Their pressure paid off in the 56th minute when a defensive lapse allowed Humphrey Aroko to pounce, rounding goalkeeper Byrne Omondi before finishing to pull one back.
Any hopes of a comeback were short-lived. Akonnor’s substitutions proved decisive as Paul Ochuoga came on and immediately made an impact.

In the 81st minute, Ochuoga provided a precise assist for Samuel Kapen, who restored Gor Mahia’s two-goal cushion.
With Sharks visibly deflated, Gor Mahia struck again. A swift one-two between Ochuoga and Mike Kibwage opened up the Sharks defence, and Kibwage’s incisive through ball was expertly finished by Felix Oluoch to make it 4-1 his seventh league goal of the season.
The emphatic win lifts Gor Mahia back to the summit of the SportPesa League ahead of their next assignment away to Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium. For Kariobangi Sharks, the defeat leaves them rooted at the bottom of the table, with serious questions looming as the season progresses.
