Gor Mahia midfielder Enock Morrison is targeting his first-ever Mashemeji Derby victory as the record Kenyan champions prepare to face rivals AFC Leopards this Sunday at Nyayo Stadium from 3 PM.
The Ghanaian has been one of Gor Mahia’s standout performers this season and heads into the derby with renewed motivation despite a recent scare.
On Tuesday morning, Morrison was involved in a road accident on his way to training. The club later confirmed that he sustained only a minor injury and had been discharged after medical assessment.

“Midfielder Enock Morrison sustained a calf injury in an accident en route to training. Medical update is positive no fractures, he is able to walk and has been discharged,” Gor Mahia announced.
With the derby approaching, Morrison believes this is the moment he has been waiting for since he joined the club.
First Mashemeji Derby win
“Last season we were not at our best in both derbies and the matches ended in draws. But this season everyone is psyched up for every game, especially this one. It is a match I have been waiting for all season.
Right now, I am playing in my best position and playing my best football. If we implement what the coach has been drilling into us at training, I believe we will get the three important points and return to winning ways after that disappointing result against APS Bomet,” he said.

Gor Mahia suffered one of their worst defeats in almost 19 years with a 4-1 loss to APS Bomet at Nyayo Stadium a result which the Ghanaian has come out to apologize to the Kogalo faithful.
“That match I can’t really explain what went wrong but it is an unacceptable performance from us. We are really sorry for that and we will show it in our next matches by getting maximum points,” he said.
Morrison, who has shown tremendous growth this season, credits much of the improvement across the squad to the new all-Ghanaian technical bench led by Coach Charles Akonnor.
“Everyone has improved, not just me. You can see how solid the defense has become. You can see how sharp Shariff Musa is this season compared to last season. He even earned a Harambee Stars call-up recently. It all comes down to the great work our coaches are doing in training,” he added.

Despite the recent accident, Morrison insists he is fully ready for the derby.
“I am feeling great. Everything at the hospital went well and I thank God I am okay. I’m ready for the derby when called upon. I’m fit, everything is fine, and we’ll see how it goes in training but I’m very fit and ready for the big game,” he affirmed.
As Gor Mahia continue their push to remain at the top of the SportPesa League standings, fans will be hopeful that one of their most influential players this season will be available and in top form against Ingwe.
The stage is set for another heated chapter of the Mashemeji Derby, and Morrison is determined to finally taste victory in one of Kenya’s biggest football spectacles.
