Gor Mahia vs AFC Leopards

Kenyan football fans are set for a major treat this Sunday, November 7 as the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby takes center stage with both the Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards men’s and women’s teams in action.

The men’s derby, which was originally scheduled for November 30, was postponed due to lack of a suitable venue.

Both matches will now be held at the Nyayo National Stadium.

This change also moves the women’s Derby from its initial plan to be held at the Camp Toyoyo Grounds on Saturday, November 6.

It will mark a historic moment as the first-ever Mashemeji Derby in the women’s category will be played.

This follows the official switch of Makolanders FC to AFC Leopardess while Gor Mahia Queens was acquired from Acakoro academy at the start of the 2024/25 season

The inaugural fixture will see Gor Mahia Queens act as the hosts moving from their traditional home at Makongeni Grounds which has since been taken over by the national government ahead of the planned construction of the affordable housing units.

Currently, the Leopardess are second on the table, five points behind the perfect record of Mathare United who have won all six of their matches in the FKF Women’s National Super League.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia Queens are in eighth place with six points after only one win in five matches.

The men’s teams will be battling for victory after both legs of last season’s derby ended in draws, a goalless draw at Nyayo Stadium in the first leg followed by a 1-1 draw in the second leg played at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Siaya County.

In the SportPesa League standings, Gor Mahia enters the fixture in pole position, sitting at the top of the table with nineteen points from nine matches. AFC Leopards are currently in sixth place with 14 points gained over the same period.
