  • The Safari 7s 2025 takes place from 10-12 October.
  • 12 teams will complete in the men’s category.
  • 8 teams will complete in the women’s category.

The 27th edition of the Safari Sevens is set to electrify the Nyayo National Stadium from 10-12 October with 20 teams confirmed for the prestigious tournament.

This year’s event is particularly notable as it marks a return to the historic Nyayo National Stadium for the first time since 2021 and the tournament’s return to Nairobi.

The men’s 7s national team, Shujaa, will enter the tournament as the defending champions, having claimed the crown at last year’s event which took place in Machakos.

They will be joined by the Kenya Morans who serve as the second men’s national 7s side behind Shujaa in the men’s category featuring 12 teams.

KCB enter the tournament after winning the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit. Walukubu Barabarians, who won the Uganda National Sevens Circuit will also attend the tournament.

International sides that will feature include Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Shogun, French Renegads, UK Select, Apache Rugby and Reunion.

In the women’s category, defending champions Costa Blanca Barabarians from Spain will be defending their title and will be joined by the women’s national 7s side Kenya Lionesses.

The Kenya Cubs, Shogun, Belgium, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe complete the eight teams in the women’s category.

About Safari 7s 2025

The return to Nyayo National Stadium is a highlight for this edition. The last time the venue hosted the Safari Sevens was in 2021, when Shujaa defeated Germany in the final. Nyayo now hosts the tournament for the fourth time, having previously staged it in 2011 and 2012.

The tournament has moved around in recent years, not being held in 2022, and then being staged at the RFUEA Grounds in 2023 before shifting to Machakos Stadium in 2024.

The action will kick off early with an U 16 age grade competition serving as the curtain-raiser.

The two-day youth event, set for Thursday, October 9, to Friday, October 10, will bring together eight regional teams: Nairobi, Eastern, Coast, International Schools, Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, and Central.

Crucially, the U16 tournament will also double as national trials, with top players earning a spot in a provisional Kenya U16 squad for the Africa Youth Olympic Games in Angola this December.

After the first round of clashes, the legends of the game will take to the field in the Veterans category.

Kenya Rugby Union Vice Chairman Moses Ndale has called on fans to attend in large numbers for what promises to be an epic edition.

“It’s going to be an exciting event, so please come with your kids, your wives and husbands. Especially kids, I want to see kids enjoy and embrace this beautiful game,” Ndale urged.

“Let’s make it an experience like never before.”
