Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed represented Kenya on Saturday, October 4, at the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zonal meeting held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The high level gathering precedes Monday’s CAF Ordinary General Assembly and brought together CECAFA leadership, joined by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

The meeting served as a vital platform for discussions on football development within the CECAFA region, which comprises; Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
CAF President lauds CECAFA for “most successful” CHAN tournament
A significant highlight of the discussions was CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s commendation of CECAFA for its exceptional role in hosting the recent Africa Nations Championship CHAN 2024 Competition in August.
Motsepe lauded the tournament as the “most successful” in the history of the CHAN competition, crediting it with breathing new life into East African football.
He emphasized that the event fostered closer collaboration between governments, sponsors, and enthusiastic football supporters across the region.

Following the meeting, FKF President Hussein Mohammed shared his thoughts on the positive recognition and the path forward for East African football
In a statement on his social media accounts, Mohammed underscored the importance of the CAF President’s acknowledgment.
“CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s acknowledgment that CECAFA hosted the best CHAN in the history of the tournament is a powerful validation of the passion, resilience and potential within our region,” Mohammed posted on his Facebook page.
“East Africa is finally receiving the recognition it deserves, but the task ahead remains immense. We must continue working with unity and purpose to give CECAFA the giant status it deserves in African and global football.”

FKF President Hussein Mohammed is now set to attend the pivotal 47th Ordinary General Assembly (OGA) of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Kinshasa on Monday, October 6.
The OGA is the highest decision making body for African football and brings together the presidents of all 54 CAF Member Associations.
