The 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit fifth leg main cup semifinals will be a tightly contested encounter that will see two giants and rivals, KCB and Kabras, face off for a spot in the main cup final of the Kabeberi 7s on Sunday at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

KCB advanced past hosts Mwamba RFC with a 35–7 victory in the quarterfinals, while Kabras Sugar, who had not conceded a try since the group stage on Saturday, managed to defeat Catholic Monks 20–5, though they did allow the first try against them in this match.

This will mark the fourth meeting between the two giants this season, all in pursuit of Main Cup supremacy.

They first clashed in the Driftwood 7s semifinals, where KCB narrowly won 10–5. Their second encounter was in the Prinsloo 7s quarterfinals in Nakuru, where the Bankers again prevailed, 17–5.

They met most recently in the Embu 7s quarterfinals (the fourth leg of the circuit), where KCB toppled Kabras 21–5.

Meanwhile, Daystar Falcons pulled off an upset against Menengai Oilers in a tightly contested quarterfinal to book their maiden semifinal appearance of the season.

They will face Strathmore Leos, who are through to their fifth consecutive semifinal after overpowering Mombasa RFC 36–0.

KCB vs Mwamba RFC (35-7)

Vincent Onyala opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, with Festus Shiasi converting for a 7-0 lead. Moments after the restart, Samuel Asati doubled the tally, again converted by Shiasi, taking it to 14-0.

KCB showed their hunger for a third circuit title this season as Shiasi crossed over for a try of his own and added the extras to give the Bankers a 21-0 halftime lead.

Hosts Mwamba reduced the deficit in the second half with a try from Brian Mutugi, converted by Tony Omondi to make it 21-7. However, KCB responded through Shiasi once again after a brilliant offload from Mike Wekesa, pushing the lead to 28-7.

Brian Wahinya sealed the victory with a final try as Andrew Amonde’s charges cruised into the semis with a convincing 35-7 scoreline their fifth Main Cup semifinal of the season.

Kabras Sugar vs Catholic Monks (20-5)

Mathews Osimbo broke the deadlock with a try in the left corner, handing Kabras an early 5-0 advantage.

William Mwanji extended the lead to 10-0 just before halftime, though the conversion attempt missed the mark.

Mwanji bagged his brace early in the second half, making it 15-0, before Gedion Ohayo added a well-taken try in the right corner, stretching Kabras’ lead to 20-0.

Despite their defensive prowess throughout the group stage, Kabras finally conceded their first try of the tournament as Hassan Wambani crossed the line for the Monks, making it 20-5.

Kabras, currently fifth on the overall standings march into only their second semifinal of the season, hoping to finally upset the unbeaten log leaders in KCB.

Strathmore Leos vs Mombasa RFC (36-0)

Victor Mola wasted no time, scoring two minutes into the match for a 5-0 lead. Shem Okola added another, followed by Nygel Amaitsa, who dotted down under the posts for a converted try, sending Leos into halftime with a 17-0 advantage.

The Leos dominated the second half as well Arnold Muita added a converted try, while Barnabas Owuor and Collins Maina sealed the rout with two more scores, completing a 36-0 demolition.

Though Mombasa had shown promise earlier in the tournament, they’ll now contend for fifth place as they face off against the Oilers.

Daystar Falcons vs Menengai Oilers (24-19)

In one of the most fiercely contested games of the day, the Oilers drew first blood through John Okoth to take a 5-0 lead.

Clinton Amukwachii equalized for the Falcons, and Eddy Wambugu gave the university side a 12-5 lead with a well-converted try.

Dennis Abukuse equalized for the Oilers at 12-12, but Arnold Ogonda scored two quick tries for the Falcons, securing their maiden semifinal berth this season.

A late try by Nelson Makokha was not enough for the Nakuru-based club, as they fell 24-19 and will now face Mombasa Sports Club in the Kabeberi 7s semifinals of the fifth-place.
