Former marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei is one of the big names that are expected to compete at the TCS Sydney Marathon 2025 on Sunday, August 31. This will be the first time that Kosgei will compete in Sydney.
The 31-year-old, who won a silver medal for Kenya at the delayed Tokyo 2025 Olympic Games, heads to Australia as one of the favorites to win the Sydney Marathon title.

Kosgei has a personal best of 2:14.04, which she set at the 2019 Chicago Marathon edition where she broke the former world record that was held by Paula Radcliffe.
Her world record stayed for several years before being lowered to 2:11.53 by Ethiopian runner Tigst Assefa on September 24, 2023.
Besides breaking a marathon world record in her incredible career, Kosgei has also managed to win four Abbott World Majors Marathons since making her professional debut.

Some of the high-profile marathons that she has managed to win include the London Marathon (2019 and 2020 editions) and Chicago Marathon (2018 and 2019 editions).
Kosgei competed in her most recent race in April at the Hamburg Marathon where she clocked 2:18.26, settling for a second position in the process.
Who will Kosgei compete against at the Sydney Marathon?
The strong runner will battle it out with a stellar field that has the likes of the Ethiopian trio of Ashete Bekere, Tiruye Mesfin, Workenesh Edesa and Buze Diriba at the highly-anticipated Sydney Marathon.

Some of the other athletes that will compete with Kosgei are the reigning Olympic Games champion Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands, Evaline Chirchir (Kenya) and Gladys Chesir (Kenya).
