Defending Kenya National Super League champions Nairobi United are set to clash with Uganda’s National Enterprise Corporation FC (NEC) in the 25/26 CAF Confederation Cup First Preliminary Round.
The first leg is scheduled to take place between September 19–21 in Uganda, while the return fixture will be held in Kenya between September 26–28 as confirmed by CAF following the draw conducted on Saturday, August 9, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Nairobi United secured their spot in this prestigious continental competition after being crowned 2024/25 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup champions, following a stunning 2-1 victory over Gor Mahia in the final.
This marks Nairobi United’s debut in the CAF Confederation Cup, and the team will be striving to carve out a place in history, aiming for a deep run in a tournament where Kenyan clubs have historically faced difficulties progressing to the latter stages in the recent years.
Should they overcome NEC, Nairobi United will face either Sudan’s Al Ahli Madani or Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the second Preliminary round of the competition.

A total of 58 clubs are participating in this season’s edition, a mix of seasoned continental giants and determined newcomers.
However, six elite teams, including former champions and recent finalists, have been granted byes into the second preliminary round based on their CAF club rankings.

- USM Alger (Algeria)
- CR Belouizdad (Algeria)
- Zamalek SC (Egypt)
- Al Masry SC (Egypt)
- Stellenbosch FC (South Africa)
Last season, Kenya Police FC represented Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup where they advanced to the second preliminary round before being eliminated by Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek SC.
What’s at stake for Nairobi United in the CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26?
The stakes are significant for the Naibois, as merely participating in the tournament guarantees them USD 100,000 (Ksh 12.9 million), a logistical support grant recently increased by CAF.
Progression to the group stage and quarterfinals would see the club earn USD 400,000 (approx. Ksh 51.6 million) and USD 550,000 (approx. Ksh 70.95 million) respectively.
Advancing to the semi-finals would reward them with USD 750,000 (approx. Ksh 96.75 million), while finishing as runners-up brings in USD 1 million (approx. Ksh 129 million).
Lifting the CAF Confederation Cup would see Nairobi United pocket a remarkable USD 2 million (approx. Ksh 258 million).
