With the CHAN 2024 fever spreading across the East African countries, Kenya’s Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani Stadium is under the spotlight.
The attention of the entire world is expected to turn to the MISC Kasarani Stadium which will host both the CHAN 2024 Group A fixtures as well as the final.
Some of the teams that will play their CHAN 2024 matches at the iconic stadium include Kenya and former champions DR Congo.

While the new-look pitch is getting ready to host football matches, an important announcement has brought joy to the Kenyan athletics fraternity.
Kasarani Stadium to regain tartan running track after CHAN 2024
According to the CHAN 2024 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chairperson Nicholas Musonye, the MISC Kasarani Stadium will regain its tartan running track after the historic tournament.
“This Astro-turf was put here temporarily, After CHAN we shall remove it and put back the track for running because the track that was there was removed. Actually, it was worn out.
But for the good of CHAN and for the TV, we had to put this one. After CHAN we shall remove it because this is also an athletics stadium. It is a multi-purpose stadium,” he explained during an interview on NTV.
Musonye added the further improvements will be made to the stadium ahead of the eagerly awaited African Cup of Nations (AFCON) showpiece that Kenya will co-host alongside Tanzania and Uganda in 2027.
The stadium, which has a reduced capacity of approximately 48,000, is set to become the new home for Kenyan athletics after the completion of the multi-billion Talanta Sports City Stadium.
The Talanta Sports City Stadium will not have a tartan running track on it, meaning the major running events will be held at the MISC Kasarani Stadium in the near future.
Harambee Stars to open CHAN 2024 campaign on Sunday at Kasarani Stadium
Meanwhile, preparations are currently in the final stages as the national team Harambee Stars prepares to open their CHAN 2024 campaign on Sunday against the DR Congo.
The Kenya vs DR Congo CHAN 2024 clash is scheduled to be played at the MISC Kasarani Stadium from 3:00 PM East Africa Time (EAT) on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
