Kenya 7s speedster Patrick Odongo and his Delhi Redz side finished as runners-up in the inaugural 2025 Rugby Premier League held in Mumbai, India.

The Redz advanced to the final but suffered a crushing 41-0 defeat at the hands of the Chennai Bulls on Sunday evening at the Andheri Sports Complex, as Bulls etched their name in history as the league’s maiden champions.

Despite finishing fourth in the regular season, the Redz entered the semifinals brimming with confidence.

They pulled off a stunning upset over Kevin Wekesa’s Hyderabad Heroes, edging them 14-7, a match where Patrick Odongo scored the decisive try.

Hyderabad had topped the regular standings, making Redz’s victory both a dramatic turnaround and a sweet act of revenge having previously lost to the Heroes 40-19.

Meanwhile, the Chennai Bulls, who also came into the final on the back of a commanding 31-12 win over Bengaluru Bravehearts in the semifinals, wasted no time asserting dominance.

Apelu Maliko opened the scoring in the first quarter, and with the successful conversion, they took a 7-0 lead.

Shortly after, Josevu Talakolo sliced through the left wing to notch another try. Although the conversion missed, the Bulls held a 12-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter mirrored the intensity of the first, as Terry Kennedy extended the lead with a brilliant try, making it 17-0.

Kennedy was not done he completed his brace after spotting a gap in the Redz defense during a scrum deep in their territory. The conversion was successful, pushing the score to 24-0.

The third quarter saw Akhil Anand add another try, with the conversion bringing the tally to 31-0.

The Bulls’ onslaught continued into the fourth quarter, where they added two more tries to seal a commanding 41-0 victory.

Delhi Redz failed to capitalize on any of their opportunities and ultimately settled for second place, while the Ben Gollings-coached Bulls lifted the championship trophy.

Elsewhere, Kevin Wekesa’s Hyderabad Heroes secured third place. Wekesa scored a crucial try to help his team rally from behind and defeat the Bravehearts 17-12.
