Eliud Kipchoge, the greatest road race runner of all-time, is set to make his debut at the Sydney Marathon 2025 on Sunday, August 31.
Kipchoge heads to the Sydney Marathon 2025 with a lifetime best of 2:01.09, which makes him one of the favorites to win the prestigious title.
The Sydney Marathon 2025 will be Kipchoge’s second high-profile race of the season after the London Marathon where he finished sixth.

Eliud Kipchoge to race against a strong field at Sydney Marathon 2025
The 40-year-old is expected to face a strong field that is made up of several East African road race runners.
Some of the big names that Kipchoge will battle it out with at the Sydney Marathon 2025 are the Ethiopian trio of Birhanu Legese, Addisu Gobena and Dawit Wolde.
Legese has a personal best of 2:02.48 while those of Gobena and Wolde stand at 2:03.48 and 2:05.01 in that order.
Besides the talented Ethiopians, Kipchoge will also lock horns with his fellow countrymen Bernard Koech (2:04.09), Cornelius Kibet Kiplagat (2:04.54), Laban Korir (2:05.41), Victor Kipchirchir (2:05.43), Edward Cheserek (2:05.43) and Felix Kirwa (2:05.44).
Enock Kinyamal (2:06.32), Shadrack Kimining (2:08.29), Timothy Kigel Kosgei (debut), Victor Kipchirchir (2:05.43), Eyob Faniel (2:07.09), Jemal Yimer (2:06.08) and Mulugeta Asefa (2:05.33) will also be in contention.
The involvement of Vincent Ngetich remains unclear since the 26-year-old was named in Kenya’s Marathon squad for the Tokyo World Athletics Championships 2025 earlier this week.
Eliud Kipchoge eager to race at Sydney Marathon 2025
Speaking in a recent interview, Kipchoge stated that taking part in the Sydney Marathon 2025 will be a wonderful experience for him.
“I am so excited. This is not only my first time racing the TCS Sydney Marathon, but also my first time running in Oceania. Competing in Australia is a huge opportunity for me. It’s going to be a new and special experience for me.
I’ve been to many places to share my vision of making this world a running world. As I’ve never been to Australia before, I want to help make Australia a running nation,” he explained.
A win for Kipchoge at the event which became part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors in November last year, will silence his critics and ensure he adds another accolade in his trophy laden cabinet.
