Harambee Stars attacking midfielder Duke Abuya was on target as he inspired Tanzanian Giants Young Africans (Yanga SC) to their fifth trophy of the season, defeating Singida Black Stars 2-0 in the CRDB Confederation Cup final held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in Zanzibar.

Abuya, who joined the club on loan from Kenya Police FC in 2024, has been an instrumental figure throughout the campaign.

He opened the scoring in the 38th minute before Clement Mzize sealed the win with a second goal, securing their second trophy in a week, just days after being crowned 2025 NBC Premier League champions following a 2-0 triumph over Simba SC.

The opening goal was the product of an elegant build-up: Khalid Aucho orchestrated the play by directing Maxi Nzengeli, who then fed Israel Mwenda.

Mwenda delivered a cross from inside the box with his right foot.

A Singida Black Stars defender attempted to flick the ball but accidentally set it up perfectly for Duke Abuya, who finished clinically with his left foot from close range.

Despite a crowded box with over four defenders, the Singida defense failed to contain the threat, and the ball sailed past the goalkeeper.

The second goal came shortly after the interval, in the 49th minute.

Jonathan Sowah lost possession deep in his own half, allowing Aucho to intercept and quickly release Nzengeli.

Nzengeli’s perfectly weighted pass found Clement Mzize, who slotted the ball home with his right foot, sealing the victory.

Abuya credits teammates after leading Yanga to another title

Speaking after the match, Abuya, who has already been fondly nicknamed “Generali” by fans, reflected on his journey at Yanga.

He acknowledged the challenges but credited his teammates for helping him adapt and flourish in his new environment.

It is not easy to be in this form, but with the help of my teammates, you settle in, get well with the team, and improve as you go on. Everything takes time, and good things take time, but when it comes together, it flourishes.”

He also extended his gratitude to Yanga supporters and fans back home in Kenya.

I want to thank the Yanga fans for their support, including those in Kenya. I also want to thank my teammates; without them, I don’t think we could have had this fan support.”

Yanga SC has now secured an impressive five titles in the 2024/25 season: The Toyota Cup, Community Shield, NBC Premier League, Union Cup, and the CRDB Confederation Cup.
