Newly elected AFC Leopards Chairman Boniface Ambani has revealed his first assignment in office as part of his mission to elevate the club to greater heights

Ambani emerged victorious in the club’s elections held on Sunday, June 29, at the Kasarani Stadium, where he decisively defeated his opponent Enos Mutokah, securing 1,101 votes against Mutokah’s 647.

He takes over the reins from outgoing chairman Dan Shikanda, whose two-term tenure concluded after six years of service.

Speaking after his win, the former national team striker emphasized that his immediate responsibility is to conduct a comprehensive overhaul of the squad and retaining those who add value to the team and releasing underperforming players.

You have so much to expect from me and the team that has been elected. The work starts immediately tomorrow. You have to understand that the league is over, and we need to release some players. We also need to know who is remaining and who is leaving. There is so much to be done,” Ambani stated.

So, the first task in the office is actually to review the players’ contracts and determine who is coming in and who is going out.”

Ambani, a member of the 1998 title-winning squad, expressed his excitement about returning to the club and pledged to restore its lost glory.

I’m so elated. I was among the players who won the league in 1998, which is almost 27 years ago. So, being here again, I know what the fans want, what the players need, and what the coach requires. There is so much to be done, and I believe the glory will return,” Ambani said.

He also paid tribute to his campaign team: “I had a fantastic team behind me. They did an exceptional job. I especially want to thank my brother Namai, who partnered with me throughout this journey. I’m truly at a loss for words to express my gratitude.”
