The Kenya Morans, the second string of the national sevens men’s side, secured a spot in the main Cup semifinals of the 2025 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s Cup after thrashing the Nigeria Stallions 43-12 in a dominant quarterfinal performance on Sunday morning.

Fresh from an impeccable start to the tournament on Saturday where they topped their group with a 100% record, the Morans carried their momentum into the knockout stage.

They recorded emphatic victories in the pool stage: 36-0 against Ivory Coast, 33-0 over Ghana, and a hard-fought 12-5 win against regional rivals Uganda.

Fueled by confidence and high spirits, the Morans opened the quarterfinals with intensity at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius.

Jackson Siketi opened the scoring early, capitalizing on a defensive gap in Nigeria’s line.

He sliced through their formation and grounded the ball under the posts before converting his own try to give Kenya an early 7-0 lead.

Minutes later, Dennis Abukuse extended the advantage with a brilliant burst of pace, and Siketi added the extras, taking the tally to 14-0.

Nigeria responded with a converted try to cut the deficit to 14-7, temporarily keeping themselves in contention.

However, Kenya’s Lamech Ambetsa widened the gap again, finishing off a dazzling phase of play initiated by George Ooro. Ooro stole the ball from a Nigerian lineout and kicked it down the left wing, allowing Ambetsa to collect and sprint over the line.

Siketi missed the conversion, but Kenya still led 19-7 going into the break.

Coach Louis Kisia’s charges began the second half with renewed vigor.

Moments after the restart, co-captain George Ooro made a surging run down the right flank, shrugging off multiple tackles before diving over in the corner to extend Kenya’s lead to 24-7.

Next on the scoreboard was co-captain Chrisant Ojwang, who crossed the try line after a slick assist from Siketi.
