On Thursday, June 26, 2025, three-time Olympic Games champion Faith Kipyegon may become the first woman to run a mile in less than four minutes in an event organized by shoe manufacturer Nike.
Kipyegon, who has broken numerous records in her amazing career, is expected to attack the mark at the Stade Charléty in Paris, France.

As Kipyegon chases something seemingly impossible, her eyes will not only be on the stop watch but also on the people who will be cheering at the stadium.
Eliud Kipchoge among big names set to cheer Faith Kipyegon at Breaking4: Faith Kipyegon vs. the 4-Minute Mile
Among those faces that will be standing near the finishing line as Kipyegon attempts to lower her current mile world record of 4:07.64 are her family, friends, and other athletes including the legendary marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge.
Besides Kipchoge, Kipyegon’s daughter Alyn is also expected to travel to Paris to support her mother.
Kipchoge and Kipyegon have worked tirelessly together at their training camp in Kaptagat that is also home to other great runners including 3000m steeplechase queen Faith Cherotich, Daniel Mateiko and Geoffrey Kamworor.
Under the guidance of the experienced coach Patrick Sang, these athletes have taken the world by storm.
Kipchoge broke the marathon world record several times between 2018 and 2022 before it was eventually lowered to 2:00.35 by the late Kelvin Kiptum in 2023.
On the other hand, Kipyegon has held the 5000m, 1500m and the mile world records in her career. She holds the 1500m and mile world records at the moment.
Faith Kipyegon speaks about the support system ahead of the Breaking4: Faith Kipyegon vs. the 4-Minute Mile
The versatile athlete revealed in a recent interview that having Kipchoge and her family as well as the supportive fans is something special.
“It’ll be lovely to see Eliud after the finish line. I will feel so great, having somebody like Eliud, who has tried before an attempt like this, and my family.
And all my fans who will be there to watch me achieve what many people think is impossible, and it becomes possible. It’ll be really special for me,” she stated during a recent virtual interview.
Beyond the personal support that Kipyegon will receive at the Stade Charléty, Nike has also offered a dream team that has researchers and designers.
