- Kenyans won both the men’s and women’s titles at the 2025 Kigali Peace Marathon that was staged in Rwanda on Sunday, June 8.
- Laban Korir successfully retained his Kigali Peace Marathon men’s title while Teresiah Omosa dazzled in the women’s category.
Kenyan runners displayed their prowess in one of East Africa’s most popular road races – the 2025 Kigali Peace Marathon – dominating both the women’s and men’s categories.
Laban Korir clinched the men’s Kigali Peace Marathon title while her compatriot Teresiah Omosa starred in the women’s category.
Korir, who was returning to the Kigali Peace Marathon to defend his title, overcame the tough course to cross the finishing line in 2:18.26.
He was followed by his fellow countryman Kipkirui Langat with Ethiopia’s Tadese Mamo Temechachu completing the podium positions.
Langat and Temechachu clocked 2:19.00 and 2:21.01 in a race that saw other Kenyans Hesbon Basweti Okora (2:22.34) and Elphas Kipkesio (2:27.49) finish fourth and seventh in that order.

Speaking shortly after the race, Korir revealed that he did not expect to clinch the title because it was very competitive.
“The marathon is about the mind. The course was tough. So, I tried to maintain my pace and just concentrate on the ups and downs.
In fact, I was not expecting to be the first one because there were two guys already in front, but I did what I had to do,” he stated.
Omosa conquers 2025 Kigali Peace Marathon course
Meanwhile, Omosa ran a tactical race to cut the 2025 Kigali Peace Marathon tape in a time of 2:37.12.
Omosa was followed by Ethiopia’s Kebene Chala (2:37.29) and Kenya’s Ivyne Jeruto (2:38.14).
Elsewhere, Kenya’s Derrick Njoroge Chege and Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru ran away with the men’s and women’s Kigali Peace Half Marathon titles.
Niyonkuru cut the tape in 1:13.57 while Chege crossed the finishing line in an impressive time of 1:05.23.
