- Hellen Obiri is one of the Kenyan stars who will feature in the 2025 Great Manchester Run on Sunday, May 18.
- The race comes less than a month since Obiri finished second in the 2025 Boston Marathon.
- Some of the opponents Obiri will face in the 2025 Great Manchester Run are Medina Eisa and Vivian Cheruiyot.
Fireworks are expected this Sunday when talented runners including Hellen Obiri and Vincent Ngetich compete for the top prize at the 2025 Great Manchester Run in the United Kingdom.
Obiri, who is fresh from finishing second in the Boston Marathon, will be seeking to retain the title she won in 2023.
However, that will not come easy for Obiri because the organizers have assembled a deep women’s field.
Some of the women who will race against the Kenyan runner include his compatriots Vivian Cheruiyot and Rosemary Wanjiru.

In addition, Ethiopians led by the defending champion Gebreslase Gotytom and the highly-rated Medina Eisa will also feature in the race.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming battle, made her intention of shining for a second consecutive time clear.
“I really enjoyed racing in Manchester last year so it was an easy decision to come back and try to make it 2 in a row.
I can see many good girls here this weekend so I know it will be tough but I am ready,” she was quoted by the organizers.
Obiri admits the 2025 Great Manchester Run will be tough
On her part, Obiri promised to do everything possible to register a good performance in the race.
“I enjoy racing in Manchester and coming off a tough Boston Marathon, it presents a different challenge which I am looking forward to.
I have recovered well and will be giving it my all to get another victory here in the UK,” ended the multiple Boston Marathon champion.
Similar to the men’s category, it is difficult to predict the winner in the men’s event due to the caliber of runners confirmed for the event.
Nonetheless, Ngetich, who eloped with the title last year stands a good chance of outpacing his opponents.
“I’m happy to be returning to Manchester to defend my title. I’m coming off another third place finish in Tokyo so I’m in similar shape to 2024.
I was so close to the course record last year so that will be at the back of my mind,” he commented.
Ngetich, who registered a podium position in the 2024 Tokyo Marathon, won the 2024 Great Manchester Run in a lifetime best time of 27:25.
